For their 3rd open of the year, on the 3rd and 4th of August the Classic and Vintage Racing Dinghy Association visited Clwedog Sailing Club, to sail in one of the most beautiful inland sailing spots in the country.

15 boats took part, with a good contingent from Roadford Lake Sailing Club taking on the local experts in the famously swirly winds. We had a range of classic boats with three Flying Fifteens and the rare opportunity to see three Fairey Jollyboats racing together.

The weather was beautiful and except for a few baby squalls, very low on wind. In the end, the race officers managed to start three races using the centre of the lake and making the best of the zephyr winds.

In these difficult conditions the Pegasus – 197 of David Rollinson was able to dominate the rest of the fleet with three first places. Second place was taken by the National 12 of Stuart Budden and Lizzie, making advantage of a little lost weight in boat and crew. Third was local expert Malcolm Price in a Solo, showing that 30 years away from sailing had not slowed him down any.

All in all an excellent event, at a wonderful new location for the CVRDA. We will return!
