I have two of them and alas one must go. We have replaced the soft parts of the transom and the hull seems to be sound. Bit of repair to the last foot of the hog to do. New decks needed of course. Boat has a wooden mast and is on a fairly serviceable trailer. More pics, details and a progress report...

They have an Airborne Lifeboat!! Beautifully restored - and the original instructions for downed flyers in the library. Plus the original Windmill Redwing!

Its a wonderful museum, very go ahead and hands on with new stuff coming along all the time.

Looks strongly like a Twinkle Twelve to me but have not counted planks. The transom looks about right and the original rigs were gunter although now replaced by Bermudan. They were built by Wrights of Ipswich in the 50s - early 70s who also built a Twinkle 10 and a similar Family 14. There is a flee...

I have a Starfish and the bit about minimal rocker does not seem right to me. They were after all designed to be very quick in the tacks for river work. Incidentally Mike Nokes did pretty well with the original Starfish with one 4th place and one third (actually fourth but there was a joint above hi...

Lest we forget: Varnish every year - five coats was it? Bleeding knuckles from those d*mn ribs Compression fractures in wooden masts Endless fiddling with spreader tension Or planing the mast of your or OK OR Finn And the simple envy of the chap who had the latest Starfish or Mark VIII or whatever a...

Hi Alan

Yes and no. The one by the club house was (is) Pendle Witch. She is still at the club but the other (1713) has come home for the next bit of work. Means I can get a cuppa. Wonderful what our Health Service can do - especially now they I know which way the grain runs..

The thwart in my (second) old National 12 has just come up the most beautiful honey colour - it was lurking under all that old varnish. I guess the knees will be the same when I finally get through the toffee apple stuff. Who would not admire knees like that?

Hi David

I had it in my mind that all the SVOD boats had to be identified by sails of different colour combinations. Clearly not. Thanks for that. (On the other hand it does look a bit like a Twinkle, wishful thinking I guess, I quite like Twinkles

Alan many thanks - enough now don't you think. Incidentally I have two N12s sitting at Frensham waiting for restoration - one of them is booked by my grandchildren aged 6 an 7 - they want to sleep in it! An N12 cruiser? Is that new? Nice brass portholes and an attractive sheer to the cabin roof? Gaf...

Does anyone remember the Barbel - an MS Redman design which came in two sizes, Barbel 1 at 12 feet and Barbel II at 14 feet. A hard chine dinghy but designed as a small cruiser with a proper lid. A nice sheer. I can't imagine how anyone would fit into the 12 but the 14 looked the business. I have a ...

Whilst my knees were convalescing I went out and bought a very old 20ft river cruiser in grp - a Norman 20 for those that know them. That way I had a tiny cruiser which I could afford (surprisingly it cost less than the price of a newish Gosling)and we would at least be afloat during the winter. I w...

Good heavens - who ever suggested that I thought the CVRDA lot were snobby? Heck - all I did was to write a couple of lines to Rupert by way of encouragement. As for being "plain silly" - and "must realise" - you might want to look have another look at my original and only postin...
