Re: finn- or something else
If it's 16ft long then it's not an FD unless someone has cut 3' 10" off it at sone time. Certainly not a Flying Junior.

Re: Don't recognise this...after market transom flaps?
I'm pretty sure it's an Fj. (13' 3" loa.)
There used to be one at Maylandsea Bay Y.C. Which was sailed by the son of an FD sailor.

Re: Cotton Jib / Genoa wanted
I have a number of old FD Genoas that have been donated to the class, which may be of use I've not got exact measurements to hand but luff is going to be circa 5450mm

Re: FD anyone?
See this boat eventually sold on e-bay for £500 which was slightly lower than I expected but it's in the right ball park & in keeping with what other boats of that age & construction are going for. Even so someone got a lot of boat for his bucks.

Re: FD Class in UK
Roger I think when it comes to the FD there's much more to consider than simply the boats age e. g. Julian's boat (1979) has all but been fully converted so apart from putting on a few pounds (but don't we all with age) it's still competitive with many of the modern Mader's however a boat that's not...

Re: FD Class in UK
I agree with David, when I started sailing FD's in the very early 1970's we had 10+' at my club & attracted 20+ boats for an open meeting. It would be interesting to see what CVRDA would classify as a classic FD? As age is not really a factor I would say one with old size kite, single clew genoa...

Re: FD Class in UK
Thanks Alan We are not seeing a massive surge of interest in the UK Class as a result of the Worlds being hosted at Largs. As it stands it looks like there will be 8 GBR boats which is just one more than we had at our Nationals last year. I could write for hours about the various reasons for the dem...

Re: FD Class in UK
I’ve only just seen this discussion chain & can’t let it pass without comment from by someone from within the FD class Many of the statements made by Alan are either misquotes, factually incorrect or misleading/taken out of context. What the thread does do however is identify the challenges we a...

Re: FD anyone?
Roger it's a bit of a myth that you need. 6ft gorilla on the wire. You can be competitive in all but the heaviest wind with a crew that weighs as little as 13st. Ideal weights are 13.5 - 15st.
