Re: Free Enterprise Booms

I might be keen for a 59 Enterprise I've been resoring; A wooden mast and boom are on the wish list, although I have to get the thing finished first  I'm up in North Devon so not too far, although I might struggle to get down to you before Christmas. Do you know what wood they are made from an...

Re: Small jigsaws

The muti tools are really handy, I've used one for bits for the last year, the cutting tool should work well to cut the centreboard off the hog. Sanding wise the delta pads are useful, but the bosh pads rubbish. I ended up replacing sanding pads 3 very three days until I found these ones:-http://pag...

Re: Not another Enterprise renovation!

Ha ha, good luck and enjoy the journey you've started, I'm nearing the end of my restoration now, and like you I started with no knowledge what so ever, so don't be put off by that. As far as patching bits up with cloth and resin, it would certainly be a waste of time. I laminated a single layer of ...

Brass screws in a Brass keel band?

So I'very been making steady progress with my 1734 Enterprise. Having finished varnishing the inside (finally after 8 coats of varnish), and almost completed varnishing the inside bits, I'm getting my order for Silicon Bronze screws to start putting it all back together. I'm intending to fit the bra...

Re: Brass mast step plate?

I can't do that Jim...I'very spent too many hours to cut corners so I want to use bits that go with the as the tics of the boat. It's taken nearly 10 months to source all the brass bits I need to replace the stainless and plastic bits of deck hardware (bar a couple that have proven impossible). The ...

Re: Brass mast step plate?

That had been a plan, although Ian highlighted some problems in doing this which left me thinking if a solid block; although having the wife remind me on what I've spent so far has left me thinking that I made need to resort to the original bit of alloy, or the thinnest piece of tufnol I can get awa...

Re: Brass mast step plate?

Had a look at the link, I didn't realise how expensive it was.
I guess I'love be scanning eBay for a while to see if I can get any bargains before I finish getting the deck on.

Thanks again for the advice; you could write a book with the quality of some of the advice on here.

Re: Brass mast step plate?

Thanks Ian. That's my mind made up. I'd planned to make a base out of sepele or iroka and then have a tufnol plate. The current base is 23mm thick with a 3mm plate. The sepele I have 22mm thick and I'don't thought 4 mm tufnol would do. Would I be better off using thicker tufnol and routing a recess ...

Re: Brass mast step plate?

The boat I'm working on is a 59 Enterprise. I have an alloy plate from before I started, but as I'very special to hours tracking down as much brass or bronze hardware as I can, I really wanted to avoid the silver / grey look of stainless or aluminium. Tufnol looks good. How does it hold up and any c...

Brass mast step plate?

It's been a while since having a chance to look through themail site, but progress is being made and I'm just getting together all the fixing and fittings in between varnish coats. I have decided to go for brass / bronze fittings simply for as the tics (silly I know) and have most of what I need. My...

Re: Vacuum bagging.

Great description! and well done. Might just be me, but that link for the images didn't work for me and I would love to see them. Anything that we can do to encourage people to try vacuuming is really worth it...I reckon. I agree with you that it is not nearly as hard as people think and can work r...
