Re: Varnishing Dinghy Interior

Yes. I have used it but only once on the inside of a dinghy. DO2 is surprisingly slippery when wet. It also wears quite easily on thwarts etc, seems softer than 'normal' varnish. Having said that it is easy to retouch the inevitable bashes and scrapes. To be honest I wouldn't use it again inside a d...

Re: Does the FB Group support the CVRDA Mission?

I wouldn't hesitate to take the FB group private, doesn't solve everything but certainly makes moderation easier.

If they are really interested in the subject they'll apply to join anyway.

I am a 'mod' on some groups for my other interests. Most have now gone private.

Re: Does the FB Group support the CVRDA Mission?

..of course most will never know of this debate because they will only be on FB... For what it is worth I think FB is good but it is much like a stream of consciousness emanating from a group of somewhat forgetful people. Any threads on the forum seem to have much less 'thread drift' and are easy to...

Looking for a Fleetwind

I mentioned this on the FB page a while back. I'm looking for a Fleetwind. Either wood or grp but more or less complete. Somewhere within striking distance of South Coast (Chichester).

They can't all have disappeared...or have they?

Re: Varnish over Deks Olje #1

I gave up with D2, the finish was super but as you say, a bit soft and when wet it is very slippery. Not much good for dinghies but great for brightwork on bigger boats. D1 seems like an excellent idea and if allowed to go off properly varnish will be fine. The only thing I don't know is how much di...

Re: Robbins Ply Delivery cost

I buy Robbins stuff through my local boatbuilder who orders regularly from them. He makes a small mark up that is significantly less than the carriage I would have to pay.

Re: 'Salty' ply

Repeated sloshings with warm wet water followed by the greenhouse heater works. The decks dry off nicely and stay dry even when it is damp outside. There are areas around old nail holes that behave a bit like seaweed nailed over a back door but they are black and a bit soft so they will receive furt...

Re: 'Salty' ply

Thanks for the replies. I too see salt water as 'good' and try to leave a couple of inches in the boat when 'on station'. It is clinker. For the winter I attempt to get the thing dry and de-salted before putting it in the garage. I guess what I want to do now is to get it dry enough to varnish. Alth...
