Re: Rudder shape ?

Thanks Robert,

my money would be on it being the pivot hole being so far back on the blade.......but no guarantees :)

Re: Rudder shape ?

Hi Robert, I meant the pivot hole on the blade itself - but if you grasp the blade and there is no movement of it within the stock then possibly something akin to a "speed wobble" on a motorbike is going on. It may be fixable by moving the pivot hole in the blade/stock forward to change th...

Re: Rudder shape ?

my guess would be turbulence amplified by play in the pivot. When the blade was angled backward, the flow of water acted to hold it in a stable position. Now you have removed the drag from behind the pivot point, it is showing up the play. I would check for wear in the pivot hole and also the cleara...

Re: re ..introductions

Lots of ways to mount but best tip is to remember to also tie a safety line to the camera
:)

You can get an interesting perspective from the top of the mast or by using a handlebar mount on the tiller .

I just use windows movie maker to edit and add music as it is free

Re: Rudder shape ?

Hi Jim, perhaps I am recalling a bit of poetic licence in "First of the Few" - I do remember a scene with Leslie Howard staring wistfully up at the soaring gulls. Here is one bit of Mitchell advice where it may be appropriate to substitute "dinghy" for "aeroplane": If a...

Thank s Trevor, minisprint? Aren't they the bigger earlier topper style? How insulting! - (sorry Rupert :P ) actually it is an Aquabat which is basically a Beachcomber that someone has spoiled by adding a Una Bermudan rig  Hi Frank - welcome to the CVRDA :) To explain the above - Rupert champio...

Re: Another Enterprise

Looks like a fun way to spend a few (dozen?) hours :)

suggest you pick up an ally boom off ebay to go with the ally mast. That way , you will still have a complete wooden set up for future use (putting wood back into the filed out hole will be difficult )

Re: Rudder shape ?

I seem to recall that Mr. Mitchell based his Spitfire wing design on that of a seagull. interesting to work through the reasoning behind a design - what is different and how does that change how it will perform - but sometimes people get inspiration to try something because I just feels right. have ...

No you wouldn't!!!! The biggest problem was that the mast and dagger board are too close together.
Taller mast, longer dagger :D board - sorted!

Actually, now you mention it, you can see it in the photos

Re: Wot's this then?

I immediately thought "Sea Dart" also (the moulded logo on the rear tank does not contradict this) but when I checked in Burrett, it described a Sea Dart as "simulated clinker GRP with a pram bow". Maybe there were two designs with the same name.

That is a real shame!

I would be interested to know how the insurers manage to value it.

Re: sailaway sails

Hi Bob, unless someone here happens to have some tucked away, it is likely to be either new or eBay and a lot of patience/luck. I believe the original mainsail was sleeved onto both the mast and the boom - if that is what you are looking for then it may be a bit of a challenge to find some second ha...

Re: Stainless steel screws at Aldi tomorrow

That would explain why I look like this:

Not sure I understand why that would cause degradation. I would have expected it to take an awful lot of radiation to even start doing that to the material. I think I would be more worried about it degrading me.
