Merlin Rocket 252

After much reflection I have had to admit to myself that I won't sail again and it's time to sell both my Merlins. First is Merlin 252 - Gannet - the oldest surviving Rocket design by Proctor and built by Wyche and Coppock in 1951. She is a solid mahogany ribbed boat which I restored in about 2003 a...

Re: Please help me choose a dinghy cover?

Rain and sun did a great breathable cover bespoke for my Merlin. Have had it for a long time and it still looks good. You get what you pay for and if you have spent a lot of time and money on a wooden boat restoration you don't want it to sweat under a cover.

Re: Removing brass stews from keel?

I think that the idea of the roll pins is to core around the screw before drawing it out. Thus you never drill the screw itself which I certainly have found to be nearly impossible. Can someone clarify that?

Re: Removing brass stews from keel?

I have found that there are two problems. Firstly the screws can have become brittle over the years hence the breaking of the head. To give yourself a better chance try holding a soldering iron on top of the head. I know these screws are long so keep the iron on the head for a reasonable time then w...

Re: SHEARWATER Event

Lovely weekend to sail and see everyone again. I have been absent for too long. Thanks to all who helped in the organisation of the event. I really think it would be good to have a recipe section in the CVRDA webpages. The cakes I have eaten over the years deserve a page of their own and this weeken...

Re: Clywedog Who is coming?

Sorry won't make it this year as we have a previous "do" on. In fact sailing looks less likely this year with various clashes.

Re: CVRDA 15th National Rally, Clywedog SC, 23-25 August

It was a great weekend so well organised and thanks to William (a young Clywedogian) who crewed for me at the last minute. We had a grand time and it was lovely to be back at probably the most spectacular sailing venue you could imagine. Lovely end to the trip was a red kite flying past me about 15 ...

Re: CVRDA 15th National Rally, Clywedog SC, 23-25 August

Strikes me as a little unfair as you have had previous experience Chris. Will arrive Saturday lunchtime all being well. Trish will not be there however so I shall camp/sleep in the car which means beer can be taken. Gannet is coming with two options. Either wood mast/cotton sail or dacron sails/ally...
