Removing the center board case seems like a big job but am willing to give it a go.
From what I can see the inside of the centre board case is bare wood, if I took it apart should I paint it or leave it naked?

Chris, only buy stuff as you need is a great idea. I keep buying stuff off eBay cos I think it might be useful. My latest purchase being a spinnaker pole, which I must be at least a year away from actually being able to use it!

Finally got the chance to fully rig Citrene today. Put up mast single handed and then played with a sails and rig tension. All Wood merchants in my town (Horsham west Sussex) only do it 2.5m sheets, I only want a small bit for a repair.

mmmmm..... an old plane I would certainly consider, although just because it was old doesn't necessarily make it good. An old jigsaw, I would feel less comfortable with. Jigsaws have really improved over the years and there is such a big difference between the cheap amateur ones and decent pro ones...
