Re: How about......?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'd been thinking in terms of a weekend (or long weekend) event rather than doing the full week with the classic boats. However, if the classic boat people don't want us (or at least GRP boats) then I'll have to think of another way to skin the cat! It might be possible...

How about......?

There's a very successful classic boat rally (think luggers, smacks, etc etc) held in Plymouth each year. The event has been a weekend event but next year will be held from 24th July to 2nd August. Wondering about talking to the relevant powers about a cvdra event being added to this? The idea would...

Re: Centre main.

Hi Rob, I was thinking in terms of a traveller car on a metal track. These were once commonplace on dinghies. I wouldn't bother on your Sprint, it'll just get in the way and you don't really need it anyway. Id call the system used on the Laser (and most Minisails/Sprints) a rope bridle. I think Ness...

Re: Centre main.

The short answer is use more kicker but..... that may also be the wrong answer! What's happening at the moment is that as well as adjusting angle of attack of the main, the sheet is also adjusting leech tension. As you heave the sheet in you pull on the leech of the main, thus tightening it, but you...

Re: Some help with possible stress cracks in gel coat please

Thanks Jim. A proper look over today in decent sunshine shows the cracks to be just hairline jobs: they mostly occur around stress points but that's a 'feature' of GRP. I'll dremel and fill.
Thanks again all

Re: Buying advice, please....

Only 2 boats built to this design - says it all. Stern tanks on this vintage can be a problem - take out and put in bags. Would look out for a China Doll or Cheshire Cat if you really want a 4 planker. I thought the China Doll was a traditional 7 planker? Wasn't the Paper Dart the 4 plank developme...

Re: Some help with possible stress cracks in gel coat please

Thanks guys. Ed, I see your points; I'm probably asking far too much of a 40 yr old glass boat. If I were to redeck I'd use wood as foam sandwich would put the boat out of class. I suppose I was looking for a quick and dirty fix but thinking on it further I'm better off dremeling out the cracks, fil...

Some help with possible stress cracks in gel coat please.

My 'new' Minisprints are home and I'm in early stages of putting together a 'schedule of works'. One of the boats has lived a hard racing life and is in need of some (minor) remedial work before I'll have to paint her. The other is in reasonable condition (it could probably be sailed tomorrow). Howe...

Re: Buying advice, please....

Hi Matt, I've dealt with split chines on a wooden yacht (23ft David Thomas racer). I caught them early so just let the boat dry out, then ground out about 75mm either side of the chine. Cleaned the area well and then wetted out with epoxy before laying on and rolling in kevlar tape. I then filled an...

Re: Farecla Profile 200/300/500?

Many thanks for that. Turns out that the amount of TLC one of the boats is in need of will involve much sanding and filling then paint (I'd hoped to avoid that). The other hull looks like it will respond to Fareclas though.

Farecla Profile 200/300/500?

Wondered if anyone has yet tried the Farecla marine specific compounds. I've used Farecla G6 and G10 with great results on a yacht (epoxy/kevlar hull) but on a 40yr old badly oxidised GRP (polyester I should imagine) I wonder if I'd be better off going with the Profile marine products. My Minisprint...

Hi Matt, we've already 'met' over on the Minisail forum.
Been following your refit of the Sprint with great interest as mine should be with me soon.
Hopefully meet you for real in the near future.

Should have one of my Minisails in racing order by then so that's another one for the MS nationals.
