Earls Court Boat Show

Went to the new Earls Court Boat Show today. Very impressive for a first try, though I must say the exhibitors outnumbered the visitors by at least two to one. Reminded me of how these shows were back in the 60's, lots of room, and some interesting exhibits, such as boat building, museum pieces, etc...

The Mark got a good write-up in the Dinghy Year Book as well - 1963. Not sure if it's the same place. but Mortons are shown there as having been in Howard Street, Belfast. Wonder if they are still going ? Anyone know ?

It is a Freshman - check out Charles Smith's Tradboat site under Sail Markings. I don't know anything about it though, but may have something when I get a little time to look.

Ed People are frightened of them, just like Finns, until they try one and see how exhilarating but user-freindly they are. The result, however, is that they are extremely good value, just like Finns were up to a couple of years ago. Also, there isn't the depth of knowledge about '14' designs that th...

Not quite as old, but E1059 is sailing competitively every weekend at Frensham, alongside Lark 12. Both in excellent condition for their age(s).

I did ask Lynn Gardiner to order me 2 x caps, and 2 x XL 'T' shirts. I don't know if she did so, but would appreciate receiving them some time.

For Roger, David, and anyone else considering the Netley Nationals - 2008. I had a long talk to Dick Batt today. He is keen to get involved making sails for vintage boats, and has already done several sets for Merlins and others. He has some good ideas about vintage stuff, for example handicapping M...

I asked Dick to quote me for making the new sails I have on the International 14. For whatever reason he declined to do so, so I went to Dave Dobrijevic in Emsworth. He had made several suits of sails for vintage Merlins, and made an excellent job of mine as anyone who went to Frensham or Netley can...

Sorry, Roger. Don't agree on this enforcing the protest stuff. The RYA introduced it's Charter a couple of years ago to make rule observance easier, since when I have noticed a difference in behaviour at Open Meetings (not CVRDA I admit). The CVRDA should sign up to the RYA Charter, and should requi...

Chris Firstly, accept my apologies for not being present at the AGM. Secondly, I think the meeting should discuss the question of design age for development classes. We say generally that a design needs to over 40 years old, and the boat over 25 years old to qualify, but if we accept boats over 25 y...

I agree with John - looks like a Tempo scow. However, that was 15'6", not 16'. But the beam is right, 5'.

The Tempo got a real good write up back in the 1965 DYB, but no mention of a GRP version.

I want to do Netley in the old International 14, but I can only do Saturday, unfortunately, and I need a crew. He/she doesn't have to be a gorilla, as it's a very benign 14. Any volunteers ? You can get me on 01252 311982 if you want, or here.
