Re: Ben Her restoration

She's looking beautiful. Well done for painstaking work.

Please don't use Brummer though! You need something that remains soft and squeezes out when the boat "takes-up", something specifically designed for boats. Do seek further advice from an expert - which I am not!

Good to see you've made such good progress - do hope you make it to Aldeburgh.

Not quite there yet with Nimbus but the new rig (she came without one) should be operational fairly soon and we aim to get her on the water within the near future.

Re: Tube bailers

I asked the chap that's restoring my 14 but unfortunately he doesn't have any. However, he will look out for some if required, although I somehow feel you may have decided against in any case!

May I ask, is K516 still called "Frantic", the name of Uffa's favourite horse?

Re: Ben Her restoration

Michael - Many thanks for your response and for taking my point seriously. I agree that I am in the fortunate position of not needing to worry about this nail head business. But, in order to give Nick and others like him the right advice, further input from someone with more extensive Int 14 experie...

Re: Ben Her restoration

Michael, Forgive me, but won't tapping in the nails loosen the tight contact between the strakes and ribs? With my vintage 14 the nails go right through the ribs with the ends turned over to make a tight bond, any tapping of the heads would loosen this. Nick, At the risk of causing offence, if you M...

Re: Vintage 14 event at Rickmansworth

Would love to bring Nimbus K316 to Rickmansworth but am afraid she won't quite be ready in time - still have to get the rig sorted out. Hopefully, will get her to something this year though. Its the same weekend as the POW at Exmouth, in which they are hoping vintage/classics are going to take part....

Re: Germans building wooden 505's

Ed,

You are not alone I reckon. Definitely Five-Ooooooh!

Just wonder what my father would have made of it. Having been an early devotee of fibreglass, I think he'd be somewhat bemused!

For me though (sorry Dad), she's perfection personified.

Thank you Pierre,

I am, of course, always pleased to see "Coronet" mentioned!

Re: Advice on owning an Uffa Fox International Fourteen, ple

I'd therefore expect Nimbus's hood ends to be fastened with twisted copper boat nails, as Uffa and his staff seem to have been "quite orthodox" but highly skilled. I think you are probably right, and that the screws are post-War, but I hope a few other owners of Fox Fourteens will look at ...

Re: Advice on owning an Uffa Fox International Fourteen, ple

Have been following this topic with great interest, as I bought Nimbus K316 (reg.1934) at the EISCA auction, as she had belonged to my father. I'm not competent to do the work on her myself, so she's awaiting professional (sympathetic) restoration, nevertheless the construction of these boats is fas...
