Re: Shipping a boat to Aus
Staying out of the water is a high priority here:

We need to rig these buckets so they're more stable but without mucking around reefing. There're often nice stiff breezes here.

Re: Shipping a boat to Aus
Hi Rupert They are new boats to the club this year and a couple of good instructors have have capsized 'em. They have a lightweight board and apparently insufficient strength in the case to install a cruising plate. They have a very flat bottom so adding ballast is thought to be a no-no too. The thi...

Re: Shipping a boat to Aus
Hi all Anyone know where David H has gone to? Is he taking a slow boat to Aus for the Contenders? There are sundry pix of my mainly boaty exploits in Aus posted on my UK club website (they made me an honorary member!) for anyone who's interested. http://www.bristol-avon-sailing.org.uk/photogallery.p...

Re: Shipping a boat to Aus
G'day guys I'd think the barring of importing anything organic would probably preclude David himself getting past the barriers - or they might be satisifed with give him a hose down. :o) Seriously, I would love to have a few years supply of real Marmite, but they are really up their arses about food...

Re: Shipping a boat to Aus
Hi David - and everyone above for their good wishes, etc. Had a wander around the Royal Queensland club the other day, just before I was struck down with a bizarre Southern Hemisphere virus which has knocked me flat for well over a week now. It's a fantastic set up there for dinghies and yachts and t...

Re: Shipping a boat to Aus
Hi All Just a swifty to let anyone who is interested that I am now safely in Brisbane - and once I can get a bad dose of jet lag out of the way and can see straight, I will be off around the nearby clubs hunting out the right one - and looking for the right boat. Thanks for all the good wishes of ev...

Re: Roadford 10th Anniversary Event. August Bank Holiday Weekend
Hey Chris,
Thanks for that, I may well take you up on it nearer the time. Ed's offered me something too, and a crewing place with Keith R may be available as well. Phew, spoiled for choice or what! Will leave it until later to see exactly what to do. Thanks again and regards to Lois.

Re: Roadford 10th Anniversary Event. August Bank Holiday Weekend
Hi all, I am aiming to be at the lake but sadly will be without a boat - though Merc 101 may still appear with its new owner. I will be up for crewing if asked but will have to ponce sailing kit as all my stuff will be en route to Aus by then. My residency visa came through today after three months,...

Re: Mirror 152
Hi all, Have tipped off Jeremy Fisher he's being talked about here and invited him to join in - or to let me know what number his Mirror is (was?) and I'll post it.
I don't remember it being number 15 - there might have been some other numbers on the sail but likely they fell off!

Re: Wooden Mast
Chris - I am sure you'll get to know Andy quite well in the future as he's the one I have selected to take on my cherished Merc once I leg it over the horizon to open up the CVRDA downunder. I will be briefing him thoroughly on not just classic events, but how best to stuff Shearwater in our little ...

Re: Baltic Wharf next
Just want to add thanks to BW for staging the event - though I and others did wonder whether they knew we were coming!
Anyway, they did well for us and it was a delightful sail. Sue got a real buzz out of sailing across the bow of the ssGB. Something to tell the Aussies about.

Re: Mercury history
Hi All - and Alan especially with confirmation that Audacity was indeed the mould for the Mercurys. I am sure I have a dusty document somewhere in the box of Mercury stuff in the loft which refers to the abandoned PoW. Do you know any more, or is there any trace of Audacity. Where did you leave her ...
