Re: Proctor Pictures

D

Sorry I do not have a pic, but there was a very nice black and white, and a good write-up on the Zenith, in the 1961 or 62 Dinghy Year Book. I'm sure you could find a copy locally.

Re: Whats the boat in this postcard?

Definitely a Daring. That particualr boat was owned and built by Ray Curtis, who sailed her at Salcombe and on the Thames. Don't know where Ray is these days, but he might be able to shed more light on the boat. Nick

Re: Daring to be Urgent

Dougal, Agree with you completely. I have always had a soft spot for this class, and pursued finding one for a long time. Sadly, I think I'm too old to do the boat justice now, but remain fully committed to doing anything I can to assist in it's restoration.

Re: Eleven Plus on Ebay

The kits for Eleven Plus were made by Kitboats of Harlow, in Essex. They did advertise that they would make the full boat if you wished, so I assume some wooden ones were not home built. Cost of the kit in 1958 was £58 10.0. and the boat complete £95.

Re: Anyone recognise this?

Yes, I think it is a Challenger. This had a small gunter rig, and the fibreglass hull was always blue. The boat was about 11ft long. Back in the early 70's these were sold through Boat World in Epsom, Surrey. They were designed by a D Pryke, but I have no note of who the builders were. Looks like Se...

Re: F is for ?

Yes, a Foil. Designed by Arthur Cooksey, about 1960. Was £25,5,0. in 1960, for a kit from Ian Audsley in Kent. I have a picture of one with the number 205, so a number sold. As I recall it was only about 7'6" long, and, as Yachts and Yachting said "Construction is almost indecently simple&...

Re: Finn mast step

Keith. Thank you for posting the picture. When I answered you privately I had not seen the picture, this brings it all back. I never changed the position of the mast step, specifically because of the impossibility of turning the T-bar. I had intended to take out the whole assembly, and replace the T...

Charterhouse still have six Fireflys at Frensham, used for team racing. They changed to 420's a few years ago, but swiftly changed back after a year or so.

Re: "Ugliest dinghy ever" contest

Fazisi, otherwise know as "The Soviet Submarine" was skippered by Skip Novak. His book on designing, building, financing, and sailing Fazisi, whilst having to deal with cold war Russian interference, is well worth reading.

Re: "Ugliest dinghy ever" contest

Unless I am mistaken the Maierform bow was an ice breaking device, nothing to do with streamlining bulbous bows.

Re: I14 K869 Agamemnon

My old Shdi design, 839, had the original genoa coming back to within 2 feet of the transom, so no chance of sheeting inside the shrouds. However, the shrouds were anchored to slides mounted on the inside tank, a good 9/10 inches inside the gunwhale, and this helped. I seem to remember that in John ...

Re: An original RNSA. Pricey but Soo rare.

When I was at school on the Worcester we had four of these, one for each division. They got the ultimate in TLC, varnish stripped each year, and then recoated. We used to race them against each other, and against 'proper dinghies' at Erith Sailing Club, going up on the flood, doing a couple of races...

Re: Interesting article on material choice for the Topper

A footnote to the Topper. Martin Treadway, who is a member of Frensham Pond Sailability, was a marketing consultant to Topper when the ubiquitous Topper was launched, and he told us that the material cost for the polyprop on launch was £7.50. The launch price for the boat was £249 complete, and this...

Agree with that. The mainsail logo looks like it is off a Phantom.
