As some of you may recall, my stunning wooden Merlin 3546 was involved in a nasty prang last season almost immediately following a back to timber refurb. At the time, Kevin Gosling did an excellent bit of work replacing the complete port side deck with a bit of stripey sapele which seemed to match p...

I haven't seen a Harrier before, but the hull looks surprisingly modern and racy - any good reason why the class flopped? Wonder if the mould still exists?

Dave

The year book indicates that 2508 was built by Bob Hoare to one of his own designs, possibly Kingsize(?), but no real info there. Given the hole was caused by storing the boat full of water, it's likely she would need some very serious surgery - not worth it IMHO

If anyone is looking for an O'Donnell foam composite OK, I will have 2017 up for sale very shortly (just finishing a refurb). However, she is only 20 years old so is not yet CVRDA able. I would like to keep the OK, but three boats is too many and my wife is laying down the law after I bought an Int ...

There is always a handful of older boats at Salcombe and, in the right hands, they are often surprisingly competitive. 2623 Chuft finished a respectable 27th overall this year (although she has had quite a few upgrades) and there were a few others down there embarrassing much newer boats:- http://ww...

David Actually Starcross isn't so bad, plenty of space on a decent tide and sufficient depth as long as you don't let the boat turn turtle in a capsize.... Might be able to make Netley if I can borrow something suitable and I am aiming to do the Warming Pan - I have a top crew for next years Champs ...

I'm based at Starcross and usually sail a modern Merlin, 3546, a beautiful wood Let It Ride built by Kevin Driver (and I've just bought an International Canoe, but that's another story!). I've sailed quite a few oldish Merlins over the years, so know a bit about the earlier designs, and have also sa...

Me again - 2429 is listed as a Jackson designed Wide Superstition built by Anderson, Rigden & Perkins in 1971. Thinking of buying an older Merlin David?

Well, according to a source who used to work for Rowsell, the Smokers hull shape did vary somewhat from boat to boat :-)

The year book confirms the name as Catalyst, what else do you want to know?

Hi David

According to the year book, 2839 is an early Smokers Satisfaction built by Rowsell in 1974
