Re: Firecrest 15 Re-Launched at Last

Hi Rupert, We are well scattered bunch. Mine is in Derbyshire, there's one in Sheffield. Another pair are in Essex and East Anglia. The fifth was in North Wales and was for sale on e-bay about a year ago. I am trying to contact the owner to see if he has sold it or not. Anyone interested??? So somew...

Re: Firecrest 15 Re-Launched at Last

Rupert - a Nationals in conjunction with a CVRDA event would be great. I'll contact the owners and see what I can arrange.

Pat - what's the best way to send you pictures? Perhaps you could PM me your e-mail address.

Best,

Simon.

Firecrest 15 Re-Launched at Last

After more than two years of restoration work, my 1951 clinker OD finally got back on the water this summer. She looks and sails like a dream which makes it all worthwhile. I hope to bring her to a CVRDA event at some point. Sadly the boat is now back in her winter shelter and I am back home in the ...

Re: Towing with Metal Centre Plate in Place?

Thanks to all for your comments. The plate does rest very comfortably on one of the trailer rollers so it isn't going to drop during transit. I think from now on it will be travelling in situ with a piece of carpet shoved inside the housing to stop it rattling about. That's (literally) a weight off ...

Towing with Metal Centre Plate in Place?

Hi all, My Firecrest 15 has a very heavy metal centre plate. I have been told I should remove it from its housing in the boat before towing. It's a beast of a thing and a big hassle to get it in and out of the boat, especially if the wife and small daughter are the only helpers to hand. The other pr...

Re: Repairing a ships name

My Firecrest 15 was originally called "Doris Maud". You would have to go a long way to find a worse boat name in the history of mankind's water-borne adventures. I am going to re-name her "Folly". The name suits the boat and also sums up the ludicrously expensive enterprise of re...

Re: Firecrest 15...Nearly There Now

Thanks for your comments chaps. The boat lives in the Peak District at the moment, so I will mainly sail there and in the Lake District. My UK home is in Harrow so the boat will move there whenever I manage to permanently escape from the desert. I really hope to bring the boat to one of the CVRDA ev...

Firecrest 15...Nearly There Now

Hi all, I am now back in the Gulf after a freezing week back home in England. An old mate saved the day by allowing me to work on the boat in his engineering workshop. My brand new Collars mast finally went up. That was a great moment. The boat is now looking very shiny after plenty of varnish and a...

Re: Varnishing and Deck Fittings

Thanks for your comments chaps. I'll leave the deck fittings until my next trip home from the sandpit. And I swear there will be no silicon anywhere near my boat. Scout's honour. Ed, I'm not sure what material was used for the decks. It's all been done by a pro ("pro"). I just threw a scar...

Varnishing and Deck Fittings

Hello all, I am about to fly back to the UK to apply many layers of gleaming varnish to my Firecrest 15 (you remember - the one that was going to be back on the water last July!) I also have lots of gunmetal deck fittings to go on. Should I drill the holes for these before I varnish...or get the dri...

Re: Firecrest 15 - Which Class?

Ed, you asked about Birmabright tanks. If my boat ever had them they are not around any more. Not all the Firecrests were fitted with them as far as I know. I'm flying back to the UK in 12 hours and will collect my boat next week. It's a hugely exciting moment after 18 months of delays with the rest...

Re: Firecrest 15 - Which Class?

Hi all, My Firecrest renovation is STILL NOT FINISHED and I can't even bear to tell you how much money I have spent on having her professionally restored. I am sure eventual ownership and sailing will be a joy, but it has been and continues to be a painful process. I have seen pictures of the boat i...

Re: Firecrest 15 - Which Class?

I have been in touch with the owner of Firecrest #42 as pictured. He has passed on his mobile number if anybody is interested. The boat was on e-bay for 1,500 pounds but didn't sell. He has told me he is open to offers. I have built a Firecrest 15 website with the intention of getting owners togethe...

Re: Firecrest 15 - Which Class?

Thanks for all the replies so far. The boats pictured are not mine. Number 20 belongs to a friend. It was sailing this boat a couple of years ago that prompted me to hunt down and restore my own Firecrest. I'll try to tempt him down to Roadford as well. Number 42 was listed for sale on e-bay a few w...
