Re: Introductions

Hi, I’m John, a 65 year old PhD student (don’t ask). My father was principal of a small FE college in the north and ran boatbuilding classes on Saturdays, led by a local village joiner, wheelwright and undertaker… Over the years the classes built many canvas covered canoes, Mirrors, Herons, Enterpri...

Re: non slip any ideas please

I use Sex Wax on drumsticks, wouldn't let it anywhere near my boat - well maybe the tiller extension.

Main sail

On most of the days this year when I've been in a position to go sailing it's been blowing dogs off their leads. So I'm looking for a sail (however manky), either much smaller than a Lark main, or which I can cut down, to suit my advanced years and to help keep my Lark living up to its name "Th...

Centreboards and Baker Lark rudder for sale

I have mahogany centreboards from a China Doll N12, about 130cm overall, 117cm from bolt to tip, and another from a Northern Light Merlin, about 145cm overall and 125cm from bolt to tip, also a rudder, tiller and extension from a Baker Lark which are surplus to requirements. They're in East Yorkshir...

Re: Pimp my Merlin!

At last - a Marcel Duchamp reference! One of my great heroes from art college, in large part because I went the wrong way round the Tate retrospective and came to the Bride from the dust side not the paint side.

Oops, sloppy typing - should have read "my money wouldn't be on Swordfish" - good job I'm not a betting man!

Re: Swordfish on e-bay

Not a betting man, but my money would be on Swordfish. All the Swordfish I've seen and sailed have no stern deck and the same brass traveller arrangement as a Firefly. I remember an early Albacore sailing at Hornsea in the early 60s with the same deck layout as this with the raised bridge traveller....

Re: scrapers

Old hacksaw blades are good - they bend to follow curves. And, at the risk of annoying the Health & Safety Executive, shards of glass from broken window panes are excellent. But only if you carry out a complete risk assessment first.

OK, I know this is about the Mirror14/Marauder, but I thought this 1967 article about the Mirror 16 from Design magazine might be of interest.
