Re: Old Solos
Thanks for the advice Peter.
Mine also has a later forestay bracket attached but I will check this area when I get round to re-decking it.
I have also seen 343 on fleabay this week

Old Solos
Hi Could anyone tell me how the old Solos were built please? Was the hog the first bit on the frames or was it some other way? The reason I ask is that I own no 345 which I am planning to try and repair/remove bodges :D. There is nothing really wrong with her other than is old and showing some battl...

Nice boat in reasonable condition with 4 mains ranging in condition from servicable to very good, 2 jibs one serviceable one very good and spinnaker in good condition. Needs a little work to the paintwork but otherwise ready to sai...

Re: Shearwater Catamaran Owners
Hi Chris, I have 1931, Aqua Vitae, another mid 70's boat and yes I did manage to get her repaired and have sailed her on the Thames at Leigh. Unfortunately, I also do not have a crew she has not been in the water much this year (once). I am moving clubs to a more restricted water next year so,unfort...

Well I followed the advice of Chris and Alan and the hull is about 10lb lighter as a result. The whole bottom half of the hull was sheathed with glass. As a result I found some rotten ply at the joint with the transom. The transom came off a little too easily but I can repair that. The question I no...

I have just taken the decks of one of the hulls on my shearwater and found that the bottom half of the hull is sheathed in glass fibre. Most of it appears sound but there is a solid pool of resin and what looks like a crack/delaminated piece just in front of the centreboard case. I have some small a...

Can anybody give me some advice about repairing cold moulded ply please? I have aquired an old shearwater that needs a little work before I can sail her. Most of it is re-decking and I think I may have to replace the transoms which should be fairly starightforward. However, there are two small patch...

Merlin 3019 (Phantom Kipper) is for sale either as a refurb project or to break up for spares. I had intended to carry out the refurb work myself but have run out of time/space and I no longer have a crew. The decks have been removed prior to replacement, there is a small area of impact damage on th...
