Re: More Fairey repairs

Peter; Having made very similar discoveries when rebuiding 'Mystery', I can claim to have some experience of these matters. Whilst agreeing with Ed abaout the boats generally holding their shape quite well, there is a limit to how much you can take out before the whole lot starts to sag seriously. T...

Re: More Wrecks

A bit more information; having followed Tony Lyall's lead, I have discovered more numbers. Stamped into the top of the hog, just aft of the CB case, the numbers 180, and 67. It would appear therefore that the hull/sail number is 180, and she was built in 1967. There is also the letters 'CB', intertw...

Re: More Wrecks

Brooksie; thanks for that tip. I managed to contact Tony Lyall, who was very helpfull. What has emerged is that the sail number I have with the boat is not correct, obviously the sails competed at Weymouth and were then sold on to some lesser mortal. So, the mystery deepens. Apparently there might b...

Re: More Wrecks

Thanks for the contacts, it's good to know that there are other interested parties. I'm in Millbrook, in Cornwall, just on the right side of the Tamar. The more I look at this boat, the more I like it. I bought it because I felt that the next stop was probably the bonfire, as I was the only bidder I ...

More Wrecks

Another Wreck. I have just purchased another project. A Flying Dutchman! ex-ebay of course, and it seems it might have a history. Sail No. is K 273, and the main carries a stamp W.O.W. 74, which seems to indicate Weymouth Olympic Week 1974. The uninspiring name 'Allison II' can be seen on the bow. (...

Re: Jollyboat mast boom

Honestly, how bad is the hull? Having resurected 'Mystery' from the point at which, honestly, a cup uf petrol and a Swan Vestas would have been appropriate, not a lot is beyond the point of no return. I could be interested, if the price were right, in starting again! ( Am I mad? I hear myself asking...

Re: Rusty sails

Sami, hello. You are not alone with the rust stains. Whilst I have not tried this remedy on sails, it works very very well on GRP and is regularly used for removing rust stains. It is a development of commercially available products. Just about all commercially available products designed to remove ...

Re: Jollyboat mast boom

Hi; Your boat is stern sheeted, the mainsheet horse across the transom is the give away. I looked at this boat, and indeed, bid for it. Having repaired many holes in my Jollyboat, you have a chalenging job ahead of you to properly repair the hole under the forward bulkhead, but it is do-able. As far...

Re: Jollyboat mast boom

Might be able to help on the boom front, so long as it is centre sheeted. Cant help on the mast; broke mine first time out! so a new one is on its way.

Where are you?

Re: Fireball restoration??

Hello Jim. Refurbishment of a plywood deck requires a good deal of care if the existing varnish is to be removed. The possible dangers are that you will sand through the veneer on the top of the plywood and be left with a lighter coloured wood underneath with the grain going in the opposite directio...

Re: Never seen one of these before. Lost Class or no class?

Used to be one sailed at Cawsand Bay in the early/mid 80's, same (possibly only) colour scheme, sailed by a chap between a cherub and a Hodie 14.

Re: somebody must want this Jollyboat

Stewart; I have been to see the boat on e-bay this afternoon, and am still interested in the boat, lots of original fittings etc.,(two tufnol winches!) although it will require a good deal of work to the hull skin in particular to get it back to usable condition. The lack of a mast is still abit of ...

Re: somebody must want this Jollyboat

Stewart, depending on the outcome of the current e-bay auction, I will probably have a spare trailer. It came with J247 and has been used as a trailer/launching trolley. It has now been replaced by a combi, but, the bearings are at least adequate, and it does have a long central beam which supports ...

Re: somebody must want this Jollyboat

OK, I'm on the case. Placed a bid, and will watch it. If anyone else is keen, lets talk about it as it would be pointless to bid against each other. I cannot say that I am desperate to nown another boat, but if it means saving it from the funeral pyre, I'm game. Roger Holman Millbrook Cornwall Myste...
