Re: Mirror age

http://ukmirrorsailing.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=481&Itemid=286 The above link seems to have all the info - fits in with the ages of Mirrors we've owned in the past. Worth bearing in mind that the dates mostly refer to the supply of the kits as most boats were home...

Re: G4 Thoughts

I beleive that on a poor surface G4 can provide an efficient way to seal the wood, better than varnish. Moisture seems less likely to penetrate through treated decks compared with decks treated with UCP & varnish ! Didn't seem too much of a chore to apply a coat or two of cheap yacht varnish to ...

Re: Changing sail numbers

Top Tips - Peel the number off very slowly, usually the slower the rate of peel , the more the glue tends to stay on the number rather than remain on the sail. - Acetone works well to remove the glue from the sail. Remember to use in a well ventilated area. Dab the acetone on with a paper towel and ...

Re: Xmas Advent Calendar- Guess the Boat

Mmmmmmm.... Lets check the clues; 1) Red & white - Festive colours ? 2) Nice bits of decorative wood - Could be made by Elves ? 3) Interesting streamlined shape - for quick worldwide deliveries ? 4) Wide section that could carry lots of weight - Carrying a fat jolly character ? My guess is that ...

Re: I dont believe it

Using this event as motivation to crack on with the bodging of the Solo which has stalled recently.

Trying to keep quiet about leaving promptly on the Monday and heading straight to Weymouth - because I will be trolley dolley for a national event of 'classic' boats !!

Re: I dont believe it

I'm pretty sure the Laser sailors also have a comment or two about those of us who restore elderly dinghies with little or no likelihood of getting costs back in any subsequent resale. Guess with so many Lasers out there its easy for us all to recollect a few bad behaviours of their sailors. Lets al...

Re: Inland v Tidal

There is plenty of choice for sailing clubs around Bristol to consider. Would be true to say that for your needs most of them have definite pro’s and con’s. Following are some of the clubs I can recall at present. Harbour - Baltic Wharf, Cardiff Bay YC Reservoir - Chew Valley SC, Bristol Corinthian ...

Re: On a budget

Help. Just noticed that accessing this site from one computer - all images displayed. Yet from another computer - no images and nothing to suggest an image is there. Operator error ? Not sure I'd take that trailer very far... Agree with you Rupert, but it trailed very nicely when used to liberate th...

Re: On a budget

Maybe someone should write a 'Working with G4' bit for the tips and tools I think a 'definitive' recommendation would be very useful to a lot of forum readers - current and future. yep attach tap. Turn on and if water runs out its still damp Thanks for the advice - though I will reserve judgement o...

Re: On a budget

Wow – thanks to you all for such quick and considered responses to my queries. The sensible solution would probably be to coat the decks with flammable liquid and strike a match at arms length. Due to aesthetics and financial constraints, I remain reluctant to replace the decks so I am intending to ...

On a budget

Help ! Have just acquired a 40 year old Solo that has seen better days. All seems to be pretty sound and straightforward to put right, with the exception of the decks. Decks have been mostly stripped (by the weather) and are just beginning to feel a little soft. Boat was originally amateur built and...
