Re: Handicap tweaks

I seem to remember a type of dynamic handicapping in junior tennis which went something like this - every time you won a set you started the next set as a -1 player (ie love 1), then -2 if you won again up to -5. Re: FOX Dinghy

Fox in French is Renard - which is why we have Reynard the fox in children's books. The tongue in cheek? Fennec may have come from the large ears (sails) of the desert fox as described above - or has it another more colloquial meaning in French?

Re: scrapers

There are two types of scrapers - one used for the rapid and rough removal of paint by heat application and the other can be anything from a simple piece of metal to an expensive cabinet makers scraper plane. If used properly scrapers give a better final finish to wood than other smoothing methods p...

Re: scrapers

Great reading for a Monday morning! - Looks like Chris needs to do a Youtube video demo on preparing and using scrapers? Not sure why it is but my inherited woodworking tools (Dad was issued them in 1946 on a woodworkers retraining course for ex-soldiers) keep their edge much better than my modern s...

Re: Gold lettering

Do signwriters still exist? They used to do the gold/size lettering. I had a go under a signwriters direction once - traced the letters from a Letraset catalogue (it was in the 1970s) rubbed soft pencil on the back, transferred the letters onto the surface (like using carbon paper) and applied size ...

Re: Television program from Clewedog

I have managed to create two clips - about 6MB each - from the video which are suitable for emailing. Image is a bit small but audio is clear and video acceptable as long as the image is kept small.

Re: Television program from Clewedog

I have the video on my hard drive and can offer copies as quicktime files or podcasts. The files are on Mac at the moment but I will check out versions on a Windows platform as well. MPEG4 file is 70 MB and I have a smaller podcast at about half that size.

Making photographs smaller

Anyone having problems with photo sizing should have a look at these web pages -http://www.somewhere-in-time.net/tutorial/irfanview/ This uses Irfanview - a free download for Windows - http://www.irfanview.com/ If you have an existing program re-size your images to 72 dpi (or pixels per inch) at a s...
