Re: Jollyboats and Flying Dutchmen
When that link was first posted, I didn't look at it as I was aware of the website and the stuff on the Jollyboat.... ....but I had no idea that they had totally re-written the pages with tons more stuff. Good for them. Also brilliant to see an image proving what I only had hearsay for...that there...

Re: Just for a change, a mystery sail challenge
Looks like a "Pedro" insignia.....from a small cruiser that either looked like/share mouldings from the "Seahawk" design....try google to check it out. I think you guessed right. The bilge keel Pedro seems to have come from the same molds as the Seahawk, but with a smaller, mast...

Brightlingsea One-Design
Was loooking through your database page, trying to find a boat from the UK that I knew about that was missing. Wasn't able to find hardly any, except for this one: Brightlingsea One-Design LOA: 18.00' / 5.49m Beam: 6.15' / 1.87m SA: 219 ft2 / 20.35 m2 Draft (min.) 0.90' / 0.27m Disp. 1375 lbs./ 624 ...

Re: Rod MacAlpine-Downie
Here is a link to the history of Chrysler marine <http://www.chrysler-marine.com/CBC.htm> You will note that the history of the sailing dinghy rates one paragraph in this. In the late 1970's I repaired several of these boats mostly Buccaneers with the odd Mutineer thrown in. The structure to say th...

Re: Rhodes Robin & Kingfisher rig???
We did actually solve this mystery. It's a Vixen. http://sailboatdata.com/viewrecord.asp?class_id=6672 Not necessarily of great interest to the group here, except that this was a boat built by the legendary Ray Greene who also built, probably THE first fiberglass dinghy in the US. (late 1940's) Besi...

Re: Jacksnipe, Pacer, Mirror16 and Vagabond
There is an Australian site that has a lot of pictures of the Pacer. http://www.pacersailing.org.au/
Someone there could probably send you high res file. You can even get a set of plans there, if I'm not mistaken.

Re: Rod MacAlpine-Downie
Understood. Keeping you site 'anglocentric' is a good idea. Things could easily become a bit defuse. In the US, most of the sailing public has little to no interest in smaller, older classes so I'm a bit jealous. In addition, I didn't want to come across as someone using your group as a boat identif...

Rod MacAlpine-Downie
This may be far afield, but I noticed that Rod MacAlpine-Downie is not in your designer section. (One of the most talented designers ever, in my opinion). In the UK, I think, he is better known for his multi-hulls. (primarily in concert with Reg White and Sailcraft). Most of his Dinghy designs were ...

Re: Another mystery dinghy - J. L. Gmach is the builder
Hi Randy The dinghy shown is a Wildfire, in very good condition judging by your photos. Is that the original gelcoat or has it been painted? I have just acquired one here in Cambridgeshire, unfortunately not in this good a condition as the one you show, and I am in the process of renovating it. I b...

Re: Another mystery dinghy - J. L. Gmach is the builder
Thank you both very much for taking the time. I knew that if we found the answer, we'd find it here. I do remember reading about the Vulcan with the hollow dagger. The Wildfire is new to me. Will do a search as you suggested.

Randy Browning

Another mystery dinghy - J. L. Gmach is the builder
My name Randy Browning. I know a fair amount about dinghies built in the US, but considerably less about those built in the UK. Your web site is terrific, by the way. Someone contacted me who is trying to identify this boat. The plate on the transom identifies the builder as J L Gmach & Co Ltd. ...
