Re: Restoring an old timber rowing VIII

I'm obviously a little removed from the politics of the CVRDA, but I can't see why we can't lend our "Hive Mind" to the problem of restoring ANYTHING without an engine, just to prove that we are all open minded folks at heart! IMHO, as one who learnt to row #3 in 56' of ancient Aylings ply...

Re: halliards

I replaced my Ent jib halyard with 4mm Spectra braid with a thimble spliced into the one end and a soft eye at the other for the Higfield lever- I'm totally satisfied, and I replaced my main halyard with some stuff called VecLoc. Basicaly it's Vectran with an 8-braid mantle over it. I use normal cla...

Keelson Replacement

I've finally had an objective look at my new project's bottom (http://raroa.wordpress.com) and the prognosis is, while not terminal, more of a case like when a Physician calls one's spouse in to the room during a consultation. My elderly Enterprise's hull is pretty sound, besides the usual nonsense ...

Re: Sealant for fittings

In your part of the world you get some white shite called "Sticks Like S***"- it's a Bostik product, and I used to sell its industrial sibling out here. Basically it's a non-solvent-based, non-PU adhesive sealer that cures with atmospheric moisture- even under water. The best thing is that...

Re: Enterprise Measurements

I spoke to the National Authority yesterday, and asked for the registration details for my "new" Entie- she is E11575, apparently built in 1965. She weighed in a few lb over the regulation 94-odd kg, and is definitely NOT a Slenderprise. Would you good folk be interested in me putting toge...

Enterprise Measurements

I'm about to take delivery of an elderly wooden Enterprise of indeterminate age, the intention being to do a concourse-grade restoration ASAP and sell my floppy, leaky, 70's-vintage Rhodesian-built GRP Entie with totally enclosed side-decks in order to fund the project. Ent measurements have been th...

Re: Wooden Enterprise restoration.

Hmmmm... Cape Town is, I guess, South-West: whatever it is, there are slim pickings in the oldies-but-goodies boat-department! I think the oldest dinghies we have down here are maybe 50's-vintage, and they're hardly seaworthy. There's a peculiar mindset that just because a boat's wood it's not as go...

Re: Wooden Enterprise restoration.

I cabn endorse International's Perfection. Just finished an elderly Opti for my lad, and used it all over. Dead-easy to apply with roll & tip method and it sands and polishes like GRP. For prep I used WEST and tissue to stabilise everything. Bear in mind that my naivete is because down here most...

Re: Hounds fitting, Enterprise mast

Sorry for the late reply- I'm a newbie here and about to take curatorship of another elderly wooden Entie. My current blue "submarine" has had a chequered career, and she at one time had a spinaker. She's got an ali-num-num Proctor stick and some ghastly spreader issues, but as I'm about t...
