Re: Minisprint gone.......easy sell

I'm after a minisail/minisprint hull.............I've the rig from 5028, my 14th birthday present, but had to cut the hull up when it turned into a sieve.

Re: Sail Area?

1989 "popular sailing dinghies" gives the hornet as 140sq ft/13.02sq m, and the same again for the spinnaker. 1997 "dinghy & dayboat directory" gives 161sq ft/ 15sqm for main and jib with 132 sq ft/12.3 sq m for spinnaker. Jollyboat isn't in either.

Re: Contender

So......I am now the contented owner of K60, collected yesterday. Some tlc required, obviously, but there are 4 sails, spare cb and rudder, and some nice paperwork with it; measuring certificate, receipt from Dave Pitman selling it in 1976, quite a few programmes and reports from nationals in 77, 78,...

Gosh, a few pavlovian reactions here, how was Mr Pitman dressed and posed in your poster, Nessa?

Re: Contender

Lads, In the conversation that led to my acquiring the boat, I went weak at the knees when he said the "old boat" was a Contender, since I could clearly remember drooling over them in the 70s and 80s. I think my kids thought I had had some sort of fit, but now they've seen the pix and the ...

Re: Contender

Thanks David, that is really interesting information, I am quite happy that it's a known boat and look forward to getting it going again. I didn't see the mast clearly, but it appeared to have spreaders, and I think there are 4 sails with it. A slot has been cut out to reach the back of the mainshee...

Contender

Assuming David H picks this topic up, the Contender from the previous minsail chat is K60, Dave Pitman's first boat ?

Re: minisail 4601

Hi Max, I look forward to seeing you at Bartley - I've not raced there for a few years, but I was one of the volunteer k20 dinghy instructors for 3 years, until I had to stop due to work commitments, but hope to do it again next year. I've an old fireball in the dinghy park, that needs the deck repa...

Re: minisail 4601

Cheers David, I will let you know when I have seen it, hopefully within the next fortnight, and the sail number etc. We were members of Blithfield many years ago, but are in Bartley now, so that's where it will be headed. You can get a good blast down the long axis of the reservoir. I very much hope...

Re: minisail 4601

Hi David, I don't actually have any details, I just had a conversation with a chap at a regatta over the weekend, who mentioned he had an "ex world champion Contender" he wanted to part with, but there were some repairs necessary to the skin where the main thingy fixed to the bottom of the...

Re: minisail 4601

Cheers DH, My kids have read about the boom and doubt I will be able to get under it - we'll see how the sit-ups go! I understand there's some repair work needed too, but don't know details - I will post some pix for advice once I have a look at it. When I was half as old and half as heavy I sailed ...

Re: minisail 4601

Yes, well, I would consider it as more of a float to help me with Wild Swimming......not sailed one before, but I understand they are considered "technical".
