Finn GBR417

For Sale - apparently having two Finns is regarded as excessive.... Early (1976) Mk2 Vanguard - 21st out of the mould before the bow section was modified. Fast boat capable of mixing it with the more modern boats. Heavily modified/updated by Graham Brookes including: Devoti style mast gate Movable c...

Re: Who's coming to Roadford

Is that 3 pumps per wave or gust to promote surfing / planing?

Just asking.... :D

Re: Who's coming to Roadford

Free pumping is banned specifically for the Roadford Nationals - it's in the Notice of Race on the front page.

Someone has no sense of fun....

One Ox each? Is that all? Although, I suppose we wont be working up much of an appetite with the ban on free pumping... :(

Re: FD K9

If it's any help, I'll be at the Roadford Rally (Classic Finn Nationals) in June. Happy to go over some basic tuning and systems with you. Before we got all flashy with Maders etc our first FD was K310 so I can probably remember some of the tricks. If you can, I'd avoid ratchet blocks on the genny -...

Re: Boat covers

Al

Speak to Phil Bull at Rain and Sun - http://www.rainandsun.co.uk/index.htm

He's got a Devotti at Warsash. His wing mast covers are superb. In fact he had an FD for a while - not sure if you overlapped with him?

Re: Restoring an old timber rowing VIII

Thanks Guys. Don't want to hijack the thread so message me if you think of something - comments about skill level noted. I've rowed 4s (coastal and river) and 8s but never a scull of any breed, it's been a few years, it'd be on the Hamble and I'm now way over 100kg! The coastal sounds interesting th...

Re: Restoring an old timber rowing VIII

I've rowed an FD down virtually every run I've sailed in one but that probably isn't quite where this discussion is going.... For what it's worth, I also enjoy rowing - properly not with a spinnaker or mainsheet - so for me a sub-forum would be of interest. However, I'm probably in a minority and, t...

Re: Introductions

I'm James. Easily recognizable due to being 6'10''. My involvement with CVRDA is Rog's fault having met him via 'Fastsail' (great idea that unfortunately seems to have faltered a bit). Started life crewing Dad's Merlin - 3031 which he still owns - at Hamble. I have vague memories of balancing on the...

Thanks

Re: weight limit on a trapeze wire!!!

I seem to remember a 5o5 mast that was seriously bent by James and Toby but I think it was more to do with bouncing it along the bottom of the solent with a boat attached to the other end. Oi!!! I'm not that fat! The mast had a major interface with the real estate in big waves/breeze. All very ugly...

Re: Is it a Ferarri? Oh no....it's a Flying Dutchman

The boat is/was called Shifter. Very very fast in the light to medium and especially in a slight chop. Once owned (possibly from new) by Keith Paul. I hope he doesn't see the pictures! She spent a long time at Hayling before moving to Wales whereafter it was never seen on the circuit again. Last I h...

Re: More Wrecks

Hi Roger Whereabouts are you? There are a few of us on here with FD experiance albeit I for one haven't ever had to tune a non-raking rig! My first FD crewing was on K310 so K273 shouldn't be that different and I can probably remember how an FD goes together. It sounds like you have an interesting p...

Re: Authentic Anti slip?

Dad's Merlin (3031) had budgie-grit bonded in the varnish as floor non-slip. Brilliant stuff - very very grippy even in the worst of conditions and you made sure you didn't fall over on it or it destroyed wetsuits, skin, limbs, etc! As a crew, there was strangely there was some reticence about being...
