Zenith Dinghy £100 on ebay

There is a reasonable - possibly pretty good - wooden zenith on Ebay finishes in 12 hours - it failed to sell several times in the past year with a higher price and very poor photos and description - clearly the chap selling it found it in a barn at Wisbech and hasnt a clue what it is. Wish someone ...

Re: Interesting Proctor dinghy on Ebay - unknown type

Having looked at it in more detail I am sure that both of you are right and its a Zenith - from the photos and a query to the seller it appears to have both the sails, rudder and a mast and boom - probably usable. The rest of the boat looks surprisingly good from what can be seen and it looks like a...

Interesting Proctor dinghy on Ebay - unknown type

I have spotted an interesting Proctor (wooden) dinghy on ebay - looks like the hull only but in fair condition - bit like a small Osprey - might be one of the (I think there were some ) few Kestrels in wood. have a look and let us know ? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/classic-sailing-dinghy/233564493730...

Re: Who built my boat?

Moors certainly did make them but I dont know much more about when they finished this. The number would suggest the 60s as the date. Aln Boatyard also made them up at Almouth in Northumbria. I have a smallcraft one from the early 60s but its in storage and I cant easily get to see it so cant check b...

Re: Mirror Predecessor?

Looks like an 'Ideal' dinghy, and yes it is one of Jack Holts designs from the early 70s as a bigger version of the Mirror (although it also pays respect to another of his designs, the Bumblebee which was a good deal smaller and had a similar radiused bow transom). The design was the subject of a se...

Baby Blue dinghy

I have recently bought a small GRP dinghy which dates from around the 60s I guess and which the former owner thought was a 'Baby Blue' class. I have never heard of one or seen anything quite like this little boat. its around 10ft 8" long and 4ft 10" wide with a half decked layout. The hull...

OK dinghy for sale

Number in the 900s, (1966 with Cert) varnished deck and cockpit interior but the varnish has lifted over most fo the deck, and the sidedecks have partly delaminated at the gunwhale (could be stuck back if not overly fussy about appearance). Well worth restoration. Wooden mast, alloy boom. Hamlet sai...

Otter Sails wanted

Do you have an old suit of Otter sails (for bermudian rig) in reasonable condition? I have an older boat with a really worn out main (jib isnt so bad and not so old) - its barely worth repairing and if someone had something that was sound and not overly saggy that would be really good. Many thanks

Re: Proctor C mast repair

The Otter had a variant with a split (pretty sure Proctor C or sim) mast - that only has a fairly small sail area and the joint was just below the hounds. I remember it being around 16" long. Not sure if this helps but might be a starting point

Re: Fitting New Gunwhale for GRP Heron

Thank you both for your thoughts on this matter. I have been out of action for a while due to health issues so havent been able to respond before but I would certainly like to give the wooden gunwhales a try. If you can think of the name of the fixing nut type affair that would be good but the princ...

Fitting New Gunwhale for GRP Heron

Hello - I have a 1970s Bossoms GRP heron which I bought a few years ago as a partly restored boat. Its main issue is that it lost its gunwhales in storm - ripped off in part and then taken off completely by the previous owner. They were originally riveted on (and I assume that they were the then sta...

Re: Gull Dinghy lines plan / sail plan

JimC I was contacted by Celia Edgington at the RYA - she is co-ordinating it with a media person called Dougal at David Henshall Media. I may know someone in your area who is a Gull person who might be able to help. In my area we have a very good reprographics firm who copy to A0 and are really care...

Gull Dinghy lines plan / sail plan

Hi - does anyone have a digitised (or even paper) version of the Gull dinghy lines / construction plan or sail plan - I have been feeding a bit of info on the Class (just a few photos as I sail one) to the RYA who are doing a project on Ian Proctors designs for the upcomming Dinghy Show in a couple ...
