Re: moths and noodles

Hi I've got noodles on my magnum 8, when I was first learning to sail it I had 2 under each wing, now I just run with one under each wing. I am planning on getting a new set of tramps at some point so I can get them inside the wing material rather than suspended underneath. it is true they do catch ...

Re: More Moffs

Hi Ian

Yes it is me having a sail made. Once it's done I'll definitely get some pictures up.

I would like to get along to a few events, but as I spend a lot of my time travelling with my scorpion it'll only be if the events don't clash.

Re: Wanted Magnum 8 or later

Hi

I must have missed this one somehow, I love the idea of a lowrider event. And I'd love to bring my moth.

As for venue if possible north of London, its a long way from the frozen North

Re: magnum 8 moth query

Thanks Lyndon I have been playing with batten tensions a bit but will have another look at them. They do sound key to my problems. Yes stuck in irons in strong winds has been an issue usually resulting in swimming dues a wind shift and gust hitting just as I'm sorting it. Sounds like I'm getting it ...

Re: magnum 8 moth query

Yes keeping the wings out of the water very quickly became apparent as being key. My biggest problem that I can only solve with practice is tacking or more precisely carrying speed through tacks. I can tack and survive quite successfully but I mostly come out stationary. Running is also a challenge,...

Re: magnum 8 moth query

It's the stable enough to see what's going on that's causing the problems I'm sailing on a very small and very shift pond

magnum 8 moth query

I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips or figures for rig settings, mast rake rig tension etc for different wind conditions

Having sailed my scorpion for years I have rig settings for every conceivable wind and wave condition which I find a very useful starting point

Re: Moth Roll Call

I agree David, we have a pretty good record in the scorpions too, and there are a couple of members who know the subtle differences between builders but it's not written down so could potentially be lost

Re: Moth Roll Call

I'm interested in the history but that could be partly due to studying yacht and small craft design at university.

The history would be really good but to create just a boat register I would suggest having a look at the lark website for theirs is one of the best I've come across
