Hi Alex, if it really does come to breaking the boat please keep me in mind for sails. Mine is truly knackered!
Cheers,
Jono

Re: Interested in restoring a Phantom?
Hi Alex, Unfortunately wouldnt be interested in the boat as a whole (have my own knackered old Phantom to look after already), but if you do have to end up breaking her, then keep me informed with how much you might want for the sail. Mine has a batton missing and a hole in the foot - both mouse inc...

Is anyone able to pinpoint a year that 8173 would have been made at all?

Re: Finn questions
I sail an older wooden Phantom which I think is great for what it is. The trouble with Phantoms is that if you've got a woody, you arent competitive at opens full stop. You also arent competitive at club level if you cant persuade the sailing committee to adopt an older handicap more suited to the w...

Re: GP14 Circa 1960s Restoration Help
Excellent, thanks for that advice Kev. Phil is reading this thread so he will note what you have talked about there. Just hoping something can be done in time for Saturday as the 5 day forecast is looking promisingly good (touch wood) for the end of this week. I've had similar pleasures with my old ...

Re: Zenith - Swedish B Class.
Hi Neil,
An even dafter question, and probably one that is relevant to most boats talked about on here.... how do you go about getting a cover to fit this sort of boat?
I presume you need to be handy with a sowing machine as well as wood work?
Cheers,
Jono

Re: GP14 Circa 1960s Restoration Help
Ahhhh, makes sense about the 7 ribs now. I was a tad confused when I was counting them in the boat! Phil is going to take both sides of the rib out during the week to clean them and then he'll west them back in before next wknd. Unfortunately next wknd could well be our last opportunity to sail this...

Re: GP14 Circa 1960s Restoration Help
Hi Kev, Got a few developments to update you on as we have been down to the club today to have a bit of a poke around. The boat actually only has 4 ribs (!!!) assuming we are talking the same thing of course... What we have now discovered about the 2 pulling away on either side of the cb case is tha...

Re: GP14 Circa 1960s Restoration Help
Thanks for the replies guys, very much appreciated. Have to comment about GP 7 & 23 existing - Wow! That is pretty amazing. The sail number (if my memory is correct) is 8173, we kind of guessed at some time around the 60s but im thinking you guys are probably going to give me more of an exact ye...

GP14 Circa 1960s Restoration Help
Hi All, Firstly, I am new to the forum so probably worth a very quick introduction. My name is Jono, I sail from Maldon Yacht Club in Essex primarily a Phantom (782) and also a 2008 built Hornet. Last year I persuaded a friend of mine (Phil), that sailing would be the thing for him and as it happene...
