Re: Events 2020

Yes, see my separate post about the Classic Finn Travellers, and it's also on the BFA site. It will be on 3/4 October at Northampton.

Classic Finn Travellers 2020

Last year the British Finn Association started a new travellers series for Classic Finns, with a cash prize towards an international event and a new trophy. This will continue in 2020 with again 2 CVRDA events and 2 BFA events, chosen to be in sheltered water. The CVRDA events will be at Hunts on 9/...

Re: Mick Edwards

Very sad news. Clywedog will not be the same without him, you must all be feeling bereft.

Re: Varnish over Deks Olje #1

Wilf, I've been using conventional varnish on Django's mast and it's been fine, I think you said you'd used Deks Olje on it before.

Re: Pearson Finn IR10

The first Pearson Finn was registered in the UK in 1961 and the last in 1973. Alloy masts were only introduced in 1972 so they didn't become common in most club fleets until the late 70s. I broke my last wooden mast at Weymouth Olympic week in 1976 and they were still common then. I have a Bruder wo...

Vintage boats!

I was shocked to see that the Solo class has just declared any boat over 20 years old is a vintage! My Devoti Finn, which I consider bang up to date and still well good enough to race in national and world events is 22 years old this year!

Re: Robbins Ply Delivery cost

Neil, I had 2 sheets. Delivered a couple of years ago, I think the cost was about £20, it was at any rate almost the same as the discount I got by ordering at the Southampton Boat Show. As I wouldn't want to transport ply on the roof rack (very difficult to do it without it breaking, been there done...

Re: Vintage Finn

Welcome to the world of classic Finns. I have a Bruder mast on my Finn, if you send me a photo of the makers mark I should be able to tell you if it's a Bruder. As for replacing the wood, mahogany was probably used originally, perhaps with teak gunwhales. Iroka is probably the best modern wood but y...

Well done Alan, I expect to see it on the water this summer and then could I borrow the plans and next year we'll have a race!

Re: A Wotzit Fairey Marine 15 Ft converted into a fine oddity

That's some find! I'd guess it's based on a Swordfish hull but modified at the start of life to a day sailer with the daggeboard and weird rig. Fairey sold many bare hulls for home or professional finishing.
