Re: Scows various...

Ha, if I is a definitive answer you're looking for, then you'll have fun getting one. I'll get the pdf of the article and will post it, which will give an insight into how scows came into being, but that won't answer the question either. The Lymington Scow that begat all the other Solent Scows is fa...

Re: Proctor Centenary 2018

Robert, Au Contraire - not all scows are scows! I'd have to dig out the article I did on them, when I looked at how the way of naming a blunt bowed boat a scow came about (IIRC it comes from the Dutch) but then you can have a boat like a Lymington Scow (the original of the genre) which is a differen...

Re: Proctor Centenary 2018

Hmmmmm - that's an interesting one and a thought that has got me pondering. Those of you with well working memories may recall the article that I did for Dinghy Mag on 'Skiffs v Scows' (I ought to have the .pdfs somewhere) but I don't think the Spectrum featured in that. Plenty of other more modern ...

Re: Proctor Centenary 2018

Although production may well have been 2001/2, that is already a decade after Ian died whilst with the Wayfarers at Hayling. I'll contact the family and see if the plans have a date on them. I'm working closely with the family on other aspects of the centenary so hopefully can resolve thins. Neil - ...

Re: Proctor Centenary 2018

Nessa or Chris - YES PLEASE to any pictures that can be begged, borrowed and if not - filched! We've also now got to add the Jiffy! Meanwhile, I've tracked down details of Ian Proctor's foray into multi-hulls and have had to create another branch on his 'design family tree'. But please to you all - ...

Re: Daring dinghy

Robert and Rupert plus others The Daring was a clear move towards a more performance orientated dinghy - they were no slouch and after interviewing people who had built and sailed them, the impression was of a very capable performer. They were of course part of a duo in that they had a big brother i...

Re: Daring dinghy

An obscurity that probably wasn't that great......oh, sorry, I forgot. It's not Australian in it's DNA, not a Canoe and therefore can be dismissed in such easy terms.

Now that DOES say something to me!

Re: Any information on my GA Feltham built Stormalong dinghy

Pete, FYI - in today's money, the PY of a Stormalong would be about 1200. I know this because (drum roll here) - the Stormalong is about to get a mention in a new article that I'm doing for Y&Y.com¬! What would help a lot is if you (or Sami) could divvie up a picture of a boat sailing! regards D...

Re: Proctor Centenary 2018

Michael, Oh dear, that looks rather like an Eileen Ramsay picture to me! Do you have any shots of the boats up at Bossoms? I remember the Alpha but have to admit that I never sinned so badly that I was sent out afloat in one! (and that is saying something!). Pat - yes please to a picture if possible...

Re: Daring dinghy

Whilst you are right to say that circumstances play a large part in what we can do (as against what we would LIKE to do) it is hard to reconcile the fact that a boat such as the Daring (or a Ghost, Unit, Jacksnipe or Typhoon) won't take up any more space, nor resource, than a Merlin or 14. As I said...

Re: Daring dinghy

I'm not sure what the dynamic is Rupert - certainly the success of some classes becomes something of a driver for further growth - witnessed by not just the Merlins but the low rider classic moths, Finns and the Minisails - and now the F15s, 14s - whilst other classes can only look on in envy at the...

Re: Daring dinghy

Cweed - I am already in the midst of a classic pocket rocket project and can confirm that they gobble up time and resource at am amazing rate! And add to that, I'm looking at another AND am heading up the Proctor 2018 celebrations. Coming from the Netley/Weston area, I'd love the Daring and if I wer...

Re: Proctor Centenary 2018

Thanks Robert, as 'that' supermarket likes to tell us, 'every little helps'.

Other big gaps in the knowledge...

Alpha

Adventuress

Blue Peter

and one boat that I know we've had on here before, the Marlin! (Marlin Mk3 as well)
