Rule changes for better or worse

In the "Mirror, Mirror..." thread Ed said It is interesting how so many classes seem to shoot themselves in the foot in the later stages of their popularity, effectively hastening their doom. Maybe some have brought in rule-changes which have truly re-vitalised the class? Maybe another thread with e...

Re: Where you live

A bit late catching up with this. I'm just down the road from Chris, Pat, Roger etc and race/potter about at Shearwater and instruct youngsters at WWYSA at Westbury.

Re: New Year Resolutions?

Well my resolution for 2013 is simply to sail more. Now I have the Solo there won't be problems with finding a crew so I hope this will be an easy one to keep.

Another boat at last

After talking about it for ages at last I have bought myself a single-hander - Solo 2863. She is not in great condition but is sailable and is CVRDA-able. I just need to figure out how to juggle boats, cars and camping kit so I can do the necessary sanding and varnishing. Solo is currently slung und...

Re: The worst classic dinghy.

My old scout group had two boats called Ladybirds. I don't know old they were but they must have been at least 10 years old at the time and this was 20 years ago. They were dreadful, flat bottomed things built from half-inch thick chopped strand mat and with no side-decks. They were overweight, chr...

Re: The worst classic dinghy.

To get back on topic (mmm... Topic) I can't say I have ever sailed a "proper" classic dinghy that I would never sail again. However, I learnt to sail in a wooden Optimist in 1969/70 and even then it seemed old and cranky. Maybe it was me and not the boat but I once the wind got up enough to make sai...

Re: Opportunity Knocks, End of season sale??

That Streaker does look enticing. If sailed well it would give the Solos and L****s a run for their money at Shearwater. BUT could I sail one well enough? Besides I haven't time for a wooden boat... Well maybe just a small bid :) Where would I keep a second boat? Ought to discuss with the financial ...

Nessa, really sorry to hear of your father's death.

I'm sure I speak for all the CVRDA members when I say that we'll be thinking of you. Remember there are many of us in the Bath area if there is anything you need.

Re: Plea for a volunteer skipper in the Lake District

Magnus,

I have passed this on to my daughter who will be back up in Lancaster from late July for until early September. She does not have her own transport, how difficult is it to get there by public transport?

Re: HOLT CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS

I must add to the chorus of thanks due to Roger, Chris and everyone at Wraysbury who made for such a successfull weekend. If only we could have enjoyed Sunday afternoon's weather over both days it would have been almost perfect (and I would be suffering from sunburn). Now, who has a Holt boat I coul...

Re: boom.

Can I start a range of boom bashing horror stories? Alright, if you must. :D The first time my daughter tried a L***r (4.7 rig) she gybed unexpectedly (well it was Shearwater), got a bang on the head that could be heard all around the lake, which knocked her out of the boat. She seemed a bit whoozy...

Re: Laser woes.

I have to admit to sailing a Laser for about 25 years until back, knees and and other parts of the body started letting me down. :( In my late 20s, when I was about Trebor's weight and build, I had masses of fun in the boat. In a steady blow I could just about keep upright in a Force 5, after that I...
