Re: wood glue or epoxy ?

Epoxy - then you don't have to pin it down....

Re: miracle restoration

A common problem with Miracles and Mirrors is those floor strips. They were fitted with copper nails and aerolight glue. The glue fails with time and as the floor flexes the nails pull a bit leaving a water trap beneath the strips. The floor rots out from underneath them and as it is hidden it doesn...

Re: miracle restoration

No problem whipping the deck off a Miracle - I have done several.... I am just completing a complete new bottom panel in the hull of mine - actually quite an easy job too. Hope you have fun with yours,

Re: Plywood and veneer and more on the bay from Chipstow boa

I'm heading down tomorrow to save the Osprey building jigs and templates from becoming a bonfire - more things to be tripping over in my workshop! I will have a large flatbed trailer heading back up the A1 to Newcastle if anyone is interested in any ply from his stock...

Re: anyone oop north?

As you know Nessa I am not too far from Middlesbrough but I am not sure when I will be heading south. If you want it holding in Newcastle for the time being I am sure I could help with that.

Re: Anyone near Windsor?

Well the wind is a freezing northerly gale so I am off to Kielder to coach the kids dinghy club. I wonder who else will turn up..... Anyway I have left a snipe on the e-bay mast. The seller seems to have an e-bay shop dealing with dinghy parts. If I win it I will contact Steve and see what we can ar...

Re: Anyone near Windsor?

You can never have too many masts especially so if you don't mind collecting and holding onto a mast until I can sort out how to collect it from you then it would be much appreciated. If you are happy to do this I will put a low snipe on it as I am coaching our junior squad all day tomorrow.

Re: Non slip on varnish?

When I last stripped the varnish from the Osprey it took me ages to remove tons of ugly sand/varnish mixture from the floor and gunwhales (I later discovered it had been put in from new to try and get the hull up to minimum weight...). The boat looked so good after varnishing I resolved not to put a...

Re: Anyone near Windsor?

The auction finishes tomorrow morning but I see the seller is away until the 14th so unfortunately I think your kind offer won't work out Roger. Thanks for thinking of it though. There is no urgency to me getting a Miracle mast - basicly I have my family racing Miracle and a "project" Miracle in nee...

Anyone near Windsor?

There is a Miracle mast with no bidders finishing soon in Windsor - collection only. I am in need of a mast but I live in Newcastle and the time and fuel would be prohibitive. I will be heading to the Bristol area for Christmas so am wondering if it is possible for anyone to collect and store this u...

Tiger stripe Sapele ply offcut

I don't suppose anyone has an 8" square of 4mm Sapele faced ply they could pop in the post to me? I am in the middle of re-building my Miracle after a rather catastrophic mast failure took out a large section of hull. I now need to patch in the bit of deck at the mast gate which was ripped away and ...

Re: Another Enterprise Restoration of boat number 1734

It's been a while since I did any Enterprise fettling but I would be surprised at a 6mm thick deck - I would have thought 4 more likely. Robbins timber in Bristol does a good mail order with prompt delivery of marine ply so I would be tempted to start ripping bits off and measuring properly before o...

Re: Mirror age

The last mirror I built with my dad in the late 70s was 62357 so the mirror class figures are right - I am sure that one had an alloy mast with the kit though. Perhaps it was an option. I am in the middle of building 48*** with my daughter at the moment so the sail number is no guarantee of age thou...

Firefly boaw fitting fasteners

Just doing a rapid re-deck of a Fairy Firefly. The bronze bow fitting was held in place with an odd assortment of stainless screws and a couple of round head stainless bolts. I am assuming these were not original so plan to replace them. Would it originally have been screwed down or through bolted o...
