Re: Gold lettering

Chris is right, Gold Leaf work is not that difficult if you have a steady hand. Doing it directly on the boat could be a problem because of working heights etc. A separate name plaque could be the way to go because that can be prepared on the bench.

Re: Pegasus ?????

The OD 14 was a Peter Johnstone development based closely on the Cross 3 hull. It had the three red bats under the 14 as its insignia. The OD measured as a 14 but was quickly superseded. I don't know how many there were here but there were quite a few built in the US/Canada. It had a chine at the st...

Re: Why have Snipes become so slow?

The person to ask is Bas Edmonds in the technical department. He is pretty busy but drop him an email bas.edmonds@rya.org.uk and I am sure he will help if he can. I know the RYA are trying to make the Portsmouth Yardstick more user friendly with linked to programs such as sailwave. There will be an ...

Peter Milne

I have to pass on the sad news that Peter Milne passed away at the weekend. He had not been well for some time.

However, his legacy will live on in the Fireball and his other designs.

684 is a 1957 boat first called Talisman. Built by Souters but no designer listed. Looks like it could be an interesting project.

Re: Early 420s

The 420 and 470 all suffered from going soft very quickly. Both classes had a very strict (and still do) laminating schedule which was not up to the job. Builders have spent years trying to get stiffer boats, hence the latest Dutch 470 which is using a new hi tech resin to try and get stiffness. The...

Re: Thames Vintage Event and Int 14 for sale

No I am sure that you need deck chairs and a beach and ice creams and knotted hankies for it to be the sea. Some people call it the Thames but round here is is just known as the London River, and that can be pretty wide in places. I am not sure it the funny taste is just salt though!
