Re: Merlin Rocket on Ebay

Not to mention that the stern looks as though it might have had water sitting in it.

I'd definitely want to see a boat like this before committing to buy

Re: Is it?

This is in the For Sale forum identified as a Barnt Green One Design, a class that emerged at about the same time as the N12-precursor OUSC one-design. When the National 12 rules were published, it was found that with slight modification the Barnt Green boats would fit into the rule. So while not bu...

N12 2503 'Uncle Stalky' on Wight Bay

http://www.wightbay.com/boats-watersports/national-12-sailing-dinghy/4813507 Apparently this was a one-off, rather narrow for its day, which was designed and built by a couple of scientists. According to the N12 site: Uncle Stalky is a combined design effort by Jim and I [Chris Aldis] during our stu...

Re: very cheap classic moth

Thanks Nessa, that's very kind. When I said not a handful I was primarily thinking of very physical boats that would #+%{^ my knees and back, but I take your point - I used to sail a N12 and spent as much time upside down as upright. I have sailed a Skol, once, but many years ago and that was in lig...

Wow, what a difference! Was a lovely looking boat anyway, but that colour in the wood adds a great deal? Bet you can't wait to get it finished

Re: So which boat should I be looking for?

Thanks both. I'd be happy with an older OK, presumably as with the Solo, a wooden one is the safest bet. There's the one on eBay, which appeals to me in many respects, though it's in Yorkshire, a very long way for me to go from Southampton, especially if it turns out not to be as advertised.

Re: So which boat should I be looking for?

Thanks, looks very interesting. Surprised no-one has mentioned the Supernova - looks to me like a bigger Lightning 368. I suspect it's a bit on the shallow side for me, with its double floor, but looks like an interesting boat. Am currently stalking a few Solos and OKs. Still hoping forlornly for a ...

Firefly Reynolds (?) mast on eBay

There's a classic wooden top-aluminium lower Firefly mast on eBay (I believe these were called Reynolds masts) if any Firefly owners want to restore their Fairey boat to original condition http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Firefly-sailing-dinghy-mast-/171255325853?pt=UK_Sporting_Goods_Sailing&hash=item27df9...

Re: OK 300 on ebay?

Interesting. Says it has a replacement mast, but there doesn't appear to be a pic of it. Is that small spar next to the old mast stump the boom??

Re: So which boat should I be looking for?

Going a bit off piste - Firefly. Single handing is an option and can take a crew giving you the opportunity to be sociable. If you are considering, it would be worth taking advice from someone like Rupert on which to look for or avoid. Agree totally about the Megabyte and the Hit though :) . I won'...

Re: So which boat should I be looking for?

Thanks all. An OK sounds like a genuine option then, and it seems that and an older wooden Solo are probably top of the pile. I love the idea of a Finn but realistically I wonder if its size and weight would stop me sailing it as much? The Mark sounds pretty good, if only one were available.

Thanks all, I really appreciate the thought people have put into this. I'm on holiday now so can give it some consideration wt my leisure.
