Merlin Rocket 3391 for sale

Ive aquired Merlin 3391 Dissident. It's a FRP composite NSM II built by Bob Hoare and finished by the original owner, trolley and trailer, complete and ready to sail. It would benefit from having the decks stripped and revarnished. Other than that it is well solid but hasn't sailed for a long time. ...

Re: Varnishing sapele decks

I have to say having done it on several boats i'm not sure that eposeal/320/varnish is necessary. If going down the epoxy route i would rather apply 320 with a roller and aid penetration with a hot air gun. 3 coats, a thorough wash with hot, soapy water, flat back and varnish. It's really important ...

Re: Dinghy show

Feedback from Paul Hollis was that the Merlin stand was three or four deep all day saturday and only marginally quieter on sunday with the traditional class stands all really busy. I think the worm is turning back towards the older, established (and better) classes but lets face it, unless theres a ...

Re: Hunting OK anyone??

Derek Jolly built, but left stored nose down for 3 years and the hog/keel have rotted from the inside out.

Potentially still a nice boat, but a pretty major project.

Re: Topper bailers

Usual practice at most inland clubs/sailing schools is to fit a blank plate. they don't get that much water on board unless theres a big chop.

Photos now taken :- She is a very solid boat in need of pretty basic TLC really. http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg287/chrismartin00/2482/IMG_0333_zpsbdedb36c.jpg http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg287/chrismartin00/2482/IMG_0332_zps5d877ef9.jpg http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg287/chrismar...

Merlin Rocket 2482 - Hotspur design built by Aln Boatyard

Hi all, This boat has just come into my possession as part payment on a job on another boat that the owner was taking abroad when he emigrates in a few days time. I will not have the opportunity to "do" the boat for quite some time, and it's far too good to allow to sit outside and rot or ...

Re: Removing anti slip on Contender

To clarify Luke's post: 1st port of call - DA sander and 80 or 40 grit. That will shift most non slip surfaces and you have as much control as you can expect with what is quite a coarse abrasive. Start with 80 grit, if that doesn't cut it try 40. if this doesn't work it's angle grider with flappy pa...

If you're ok with wood look for a Solo built by Richard Lovett. They are still on the pace inland and very well built.

Re: Brookes and Deadman

The design guide is certainly not encyclopedic, it is exactly what it says - a guide. DavidH is the man to write encyclopedias! There are little bits missing, most of these that are relevant to boats that people are likely to buy will hopefully be plugged in the next update which is currently in pro...
