Re: Baltic Wharf 16 Nov

I'm Looking forward to joining you Alan.
Pity the Mag 5 isn't ready, but it sounds like its progressing well in the time you've had. A bit of weight from sheathing is better than a weakness in the long run.
Have a go in my Mag7 if there is time between races.

Re: Repairs to Merlin Rocket 3365

I'm currently trying to work out how the dismantle the wire for these through the deck sheaves - I'm starting to think the rigging was finished on the boat. If you unscrew the sheave assembly from the deck and lift out, you should find there is a centre spindle for the wheel that can be pushed out ...

Re: Lee shore.

Aah, that was the day Julie and I were trying out a lovely wooden Scorpion, (It was too blustery for mothing) I remember some conversation about an inter-club series. Sorry, I was too busy bailing the Scorpion out to say hello, but I'm sure you were made welcome by our Commodore Andi and we will hop...

Re: Baltic Wharf 16 Nov

I'm thinking of going with the Moth. (Mag7) Weather permitting. Never been to Baltic Wharf but it looks a fascinating place to try and sail a moth, so why not? Can anyone advise on parking and launching facilities? I would have to drive down for the day so early start from the midlands to make a 10....

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project

Thanks sami, it's nice to know you are following the saga! I accidentally uploaded the case sides pic twice, here is the one i intended to show: It might have been possible to re-line the case with new formica but an awkward job to keep it flat enough while glueing. I'm always suspicious of messy jo...

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project

I hadn't intended to go this far but.... some suspect repairs in the deck that need strengthening, no direct support under the mast step and I wasn't sure about the daggerboard case! Case was originally lined with a lovely yellow formica but it was peeling off in places. The joint between case and b...

Re: Another Enterprise Restoration of boat number 1734

All going well so far, good work. I understand your predicament with the joint between bottom panel and chine panel, the bottom would have been fitted first, then its edge planed off flush with the chine stringer, then the chine panel fitted. I would agree the practical way to replace the bottom pan...

I'm sure we can find you a suitable piece, do you have a photo of the deck that would help match the grain?

Send me an email with your details, I'll have a look in the shed!

Re: Another Enterprise Restoration of boat number 1734

A scarf joint in the bottom panel would need to be tapered back at least 2" or so. You are right in thinking the larger surface area for the glue, the stronger the joint will be. If using epoxy there will be plenty of strength without having to taper much more. By letting the patch in from outside i...

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project

Not much work on the hull this week, been working on some new sail battens.... My Dad offered to cut a set of battens from a plank of Ash he had been saving for a worthy cause, how could i refuse? The boat came with some plastic tube battens which did not encourage much shape in the sail. Batten poc...
