Re: Wanted - International lowrider Moth

Ah, good. I remember seeing that boat on our walk to the pub, looked tatty but with some effort would be a quick machine.

Plenty of help available Henry, both here and on lowrider page, approved yesterday!

Re: Wanted - International lowrider Moth

Hi Nessa,
Are you thinking of a blue Axeman that looked abandoned in the trailer park at Hunts?

Re: Baltic Warf, April 9th

Thanks to all at Baltic Wharf for an exciting and friendly day's racing. A pity that more couldn't have made it as there was plenty of wind all the way for the heads of the harbour race, although it did get a bit shifty in the middle section. A dead run most of the way down the harbour made for a wo...

Re: Baltic Warf, April 9th

I'm hoping to go with my Stockholm Sprite, Stuart with his Magnum 8 and I think Ian will bring his Shelley out. That's a decent Moth fleet for entertainment already!

Re: Are we ready for reproductions yet?

And that plan is dated 1978, and calls for the seams to be taped, presumably with polyester resin... Although WEST epoxy appeared in the UK around 1977/78 it was used in the states long before then. I was surprised to find reference to epoxy resins in the US Patent for John Shelley's Moth design fr...

Re: Are we ready for reproductions yet?

I think it depends who you ask....and what you would like to do with it... http://www.mothboat.com/ along the East coast of USA are building and racing new moths from old designs. The IMCA would happily measure and register your moth as long as it fitted the 11ft x 7ft x 8sqm rules. http://mid-atlan...

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project

Back to the plot and here's a couple more photos of Dolly, showing the wing bars and mast support frame. I have used Ronstan swivel cleats attached to the rig frame for kicker and downhaul controls. I couldn't bring myself to drill holes in the deck that might have been in wrong positions. The mains...

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project

I had intended to paint "Sprint" metallic It will look great, though you have to consider what might happen to a finish like that when in use. Can you repair it when it gets scuffed and damaged? How likely is it to get damaged? My paint spraying expert continues to use solvent based paint...

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project

I didn't say that I had dumped ALL of the pictures! (I could be tempted!) I've had the flying Magnum as my desktop ever since that day of Extreme Mothing. It still amazes me that I look to be in control, it never feels like that! So you must have some that more accurately reflect whats really going...

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project

Well spotted Dougal, a bit of sunshine brings the paint alive! So, with all that paint still hardening off, I was left with only a few days before the Nationals at Clywedog to assemble the rig frame, screw fittings on and make a set of trampolines from scratch. Cue some late nights at the sewing mac...

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project

In the rush to finish the boat I never got much further with the story. It really is about time I caught up for those of you that didn't see it last season. The paint job..... For a 70s boat I wanted a 70s look and something special after all that work in the restoration and paint prep. Thinking of ...
