Albacore looking for a good home

Anyone like to take on an old Fairy Albacore? Easy restoration/refurb of all-varnished hull. Comes with covers and trolley but no sails. Lying Essex/Herts.

Re: Merlin Rocket 1200 Restoration

You may need to chase out quite a bit of rotten keel and hog but the nasty surprise with all Wyche & Coppock hulls is the dreaded 'infill' between the garboards. Instead of planing off the planks flush with the hog, they used an infill to bridge the gap and then put the keel piece on. If moistur...

Re: Wanted-Mainsheet Hoop

Thanks to you both for the kind offers. I am in North Weald but could maybe arrange pickup?

I should have asked sooner, as I can't order a new boat cover for her untill I know the size and position of the hoop!
Just a few small jobs before she gets to go sailing again......

Wanted-Mainsheet Hoop

Does anyone have a mainsheet hoop sitting in their garage suitable for a Merlin Rocket which is being resurrected? The old rounded top style would be perfect as its for an older boat.

Hi Jim. We are west Essex M25/M11 junction. Yes, a Moth does not take up that much room to store.

Re: Pre-war British Moth

All we have is the un-decked shell. Some of the joints have come un-glued as you might expect and part of the mahogany cb case is decayed and would want replacing. I'm not sure what the original decks would have been made from? The ply that came off is unlikely to be the original. Early BM documents...

Pre-war British Moth

Not for sale, as worthless, but maybe interesting? We have a British Moth (hull only) which is one of the first 20 built before the war. They didnt have the glue technology for marine ply as we know it, hence the hull skin is wide strip planked. The problem is there is no ID number marked, so no pro...

Albacore on e-bay needs saving

Wooden Albacore on E-Bay till tomorrow. Looks very tidy but the owner claims it is un-ecconomical to repair, suggesting decay may have found its way into the keel/hog. I have e-mailed him through E-bay. Not rocket-science if you have the time....which I really don't at the moment, with other project...

Merlin Rocket 1391 needs home

This boat is advertised on the MR website as free to good home,-clearly just a project. The current custodian, Chris, no longer has storage space and the boat needs rescueing. Looks too good to scrap so I have offered to find an empty parking space until someone, if not myself, fancies to take it on...

Re: total wreck of merlin rocket wanted, anything considered

Hello Martin We have an old Jack Holt Merlin which is currently parked on the rearmost of the back-burners (aka the last-chance saloon). 700+ number built by Holt, originally beautifully varnished mahogany, now paint slapped hastily over. The garboards are seriously shot from the self bailers outwar...

Re: Merlin Rocket 3055

Having rebuilt two Smokers Satisfactions from a bare hull, I'd be happy to take on another, as rescueing Merlins seems to have become a bit of a mission in life. Please dont asset strip her for parts if she is do-able. I'm currently in the middle of a Proctor Mk9 which was a true basket case and whi...

Re: PY for this moth?

Digressing slightly, but does your group have any handicap numbers for old International Moths? We have a Magnum 3 at our club (circa 1977???) which is expertly sailed. In its day, would it have been on parity with an Enterprise (PY98), a laser at PY96, or somewhere in between? (I think the Skols et...
