Re: Finn nationals

A personal opinion, and one that many will probably disagree with When a number of us starting putting old Finns back on the water, it was just that - get a Finn for a few £100s and go sailing. We got quite a few boats on the water, think we got to about 7 Finns just at Roadford, a few had both clas...

Re: Dinghies, raters and canoes in Hope's edition of Dixon K

The 9th Edition is available on the Internet Archive - https://archive.org/details/manualofyachtboa00kemp Several companies sell "reprints" - but I'd imagine they are of this scan, the plates have not all been scanned. I hope you are going to keep your volume intact, the individual plates ...

Re: Classic Boat Insurance

When I owned Rannoch (1947 Uffa Fox International canoe) a few years ago, I was in a similar situation. Ended up speaking to someone at WH Insurance (http://www.dinghyinsurance.com). They were very understanding, even told me I was underinsuring the boat when I gave them a value. They understood tha...

OK Dinghy centreboard

Just wondering if anyone has a centreboard for an OK that is surplus to requirements as I need one for a project.

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

I was good and bid on nothing. Feeling sad about that, now! But think of all the time you've saved in not having to search for all those missing and unobtainable fittings that have been lost over the years. Give it a while and a few of the boats will be back on the market either at a hugely inflate...

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

looks like the reserves are off for nearly everything, e.g. MS1 - reserve met for £5. So, most of the boats will go. Moved from 3 large sheds into 200+ smaller sheds/garages, mainly in the home counties. Can't see much changing as most of these will forever remain project boats. A few will go to tho...

Looks a right mess. Several lots of sails, masts rudders. Boats in one location, rigs in another.

I'd respectfully draw attention to Lot 421, the Linton Hope designed AQUAMARINE, in Eyemouth, which I think may be an RCC "B" Class Canoe, and looks in almost reasonable condition.

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

Mederka has her name on some of the major IC trophies, it would be a pity if she was lost. Apparently Uffa messed up and she had to be bumped in order to measure. All three boats, Storm Petrel/Mederka/Rannoch, were a little narrow and had false chines added to measure. Rannoch's were removed but I ...

Nice to see some skip diving activity. 15+ years ago I found out our Students' Union was getting refurbished. The bar top was the best part of 100' of 1" Mahogany. I went halves with a mate (think it cost us £30) and we went in on a Saturday morning and had the lot out in an hour and on the roo...

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

E1 Enterprise is clearly a Finn and it looks like a wood and Needlespar mast lying next to it. Lot 309, does anyone know any more? Glad it wasn't just me who thought it was a very odd looking Enterprise. Just a heads up if anyone is thinking of bidding, have a good look at the Ts&Cs. Buyers pre...

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

If I was 10 years younger I'd be interested in Medurka, having owned another of the 3 Uffa 1947 boats. But, all those boats need loads of work. They seem to have reserves on them, so will be interesting to see how much they go for. Just hope some of them see the water again
