Re: Hunts 2015

Been trying and failing with the pm system (undoubtedly my IT challenged fault!) - Is David doing the IYRU Trials talk on Friday evening please and what time if so?

Work and the world have got in the way for the weekend but would like to drive over on Friday if it's on.

Many thanks :)

Re: the Torch class sailing dinghy - anyone sailed one?

The Coypu, I recall, was the weapon of choice for the Scouts....certainly I sailed in them at the 'Championship' at Kingston and again at Hythe. The Torch I remember being at various sailing schools - Tudor S.C. for one and I remember sailing them in a team race up in North Wales. My recollection is...

Re: who fancies a game of What's This?

Thanks for all the answers. Interested in finding out more about drum kickers, Googleing drum kickers just gets you percussion accessories! I hope more will become clear when I get her in the water, when ever that might be! Back in the day they were horrible things. A rod went through the hole in y...

Re: Fairey Duckling project

I will look forward to the pick up. Let me know where "down the road" is. The price of course is not the issue,(with SWIMBO) it is the principal! I'm in trouble. I will have to hide all the matches in the house As far as the vendor is concerned I am glad it was a fair auction and a...

Re: "Ugliest dinghy ever" contest

It was at Chew, but the conditions sound the same! Andy must have taken them on after I left, as when I was there we didn't sell any, and the effect of the Topper dealer thing wasn't clear as to whether we could take the boat on. I hadn't realised you worked with him - this would have been 98/99 I ...

Re: "Ugliest dinghy ever" contest

Like this Thank you...Briefly (I have driven to Trowbridge, Benson and back to Lowestoft since this 4am this morning)... The disk was divided as you can just see in the picture and centrally mounted with a windex style spindle arrow. The arrow, of course, pointed to where the wind was coming from. ...

Re: "Ugliest dinghy ever" contest

Still it's hard to understand why a Topper should cost twice the price of the smaller escape, basically both hulls are a bucketful of soft plaastic granules thrown in a big industrial mould (enormous tool cost but very little commodity and manpower cost) and the foils and rig are basically on the s...

Re: "Ugliest dinghy ever" contest

The funboat has caught on well in the UK, whereas the Escape range didn't. I nearly ended up demoing the first Escape design 20 years ago, as Wet and Windy wanted to get involved. Luckily it never happened, as they were not the nicest boat to sail. Fun in a blow, mind (the demo MXray was upside dow...
