Re: Harrier No. 10 FOR SALE

Have checked original documents... shrouds are ok but probably not lowers (Rule 18). Rules expert required?

Harrier No. 10 FOR SALE

This seems to be an original boat with original sail and equipment. My aim when buying it was to renovate it and use it for club racing, but after three outings I have come to the conclusion it is under canvassed for my (95 kg) weight and more suited for someone 10 - 14 stone. I am advertising it he...

Re: Kestrel

Hi David
I sold 132 to someone in the Southampton area approx 12 mths ago, so it is possibly the same boat - dark blue hull, no spinnaker chute, quite tidy for its age. Prior to last year it was sailing in Langstone and Portsmouth Harbours

Re: Kestrel

I had Kestrel 132 before I bought the Albacore.... sailed with a novice crew off a handicap of 1060 with no spinnaker - other clubs have used 1058 0r 1059. Possibly 1055 as a singlehander?? Good boat although ours had the 35kg steel centreplate - nice and stable but off the pace for racing! The 11 -...

Re: Harrier on Apollo Duck

Have PMd you about Phantom bits. Do you know what handicap the Harrier sails off at Hunts? It says 96 in the brochure (1973?), one lower than the OK of that era - suggesting a 1% differential (approx!).
If I dont like it I can always upgrade to a Harrier+.

Re: Harrier on Apollo Duck

Thanks for the info.... I am now the proud owner of Harrier number 10! Quite a lot of tidying up to do and running rigging to replace - sail a bit soft but believed to be original. Looks fairly sound though and hope to get it on the water in the next 2-4 weeks. Graham Albacore 5567 ..... in need of ...

Re: New Boat

Thanks David.... see above.... "Helm 15 st... crew 13 st... both 50+ and reasonably active but not too agile! " Guess 28 st shd just about do it. Its the spinnaker that maybe the problem. Thought the Swordfish had lowish gunwhales which wouldnt help with our weight in a chop. Any other sug...

Re: New Boat

Thanks for all the info and links.... have decided for our crew weight we need nearer 15ft or more so will stick to Albacore or possibly a Kestrel!

Re: New Boat

Could be interested.... does anyone know where I can find the real specifications (preferably online!) for a Marlin - weight, length, beam and sail areas etc?

Re: Masts for sale

Nessa, I think you are right but..... Phantom initially used a Fireball sized main, but a deck stepped mast instead of floor stepped. Therefore if I cut a bit (2 - 3 ft?) off the bottom I should have a mast the right length with the gooseneck in approx the right place. Not sure if spreader height wo...

Re: Masts for sale

Could be interested in the fireball one for conversion to a Phantom - is it a stiff or bendy one? Whereabouts are you and what donation (if any!) would you be looking for? PM me if you prefer.

Vintage Fireball?

If the sail no is genuine, this must be one of a very few of the very early models still sailing. Possible conversion to original spec with no spinnaker and no trapeze? Might need to do some Portsmouth Yardstick research though..... http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/classifieds/?s=102&category=23...

Re: New Boat

Wayfarer could well be ideal.... until you try and pull it up the slipway! It is the major reason I have never contemplated one, but if you have a shallow slipway and good pulling muscles it may not be too bad. Not sure about capsize recovery though... have heard they can be difficult.

Re: New Boat

Well J can thouroughly recommend the Albacore.... good for novice crew, cvrda eligible, stable and available from £500 to £5,000..... renovation project or no maintanance GRP (Shock horror... am I allowed to say that on the cvrda forum??). Any boat tho... try a trial sail first. Even an Enterprise c...
