Re: Invitation : Island Barn (SW London) 20th September

Just want to add my thanks for a great event yesterday and well done to Jim for undertaking the awesome task of sorting out handicapping and race results for 55 boats. IBSC arranged to have volunteers at each of the 10 or so buoys to finish all boats after an hour and a half. How the hell you work o...

Re: Invitation : Island Barn (SW London) 20th September

It's a fair point but for the fact that both boats are the original Fairey hull shape which is generally considered within the Alb assocation to be off the pace these days. Hence within the assoc, events such as the Maidenhead open are now starting to have a classic prize aimed at giving the older h...

Re: 2010 events

Blimey! I spent August in the Mojave desert and missed all this! If it's not too late, can I submit a date for the TSC CVRDA event which we'd love again to be a round of the traveller series. It will be the 17th/18th July though this is still subject to agreement with the River Users Group (...

Re: Invitation : Island Barn (SW London) 20th September

Jim I've put together a team of classic's from Thames Sailing Club. Unfortunately I only have 3 boats at the moment. Anyone out there want to join us to make a 4th? We currently have 2 Fairey Albacores - one 1967 vintage and mine which is 1962. We also have a 1964 Merlin Rocket. If we can't get a 4t...

Re: Roadford 10th Anniversary Event. August Bank Holiday Weekend

I've very suddenly landed an assignment in the US for the next 2 weeks leaving tomorrow. Yikes! That means I need someone who is going to Roadford to send me their address ASAP so I can post the banner out THIS AFTERNOON. For interest, to see what I'll be doing, go to http://www.steamcar.co.uk . I'l...

Re: 18th/19th July Thames Sailing Club

Because the calendar has to be co-ordinated with the River Users Group (to ensure we don't have a rowing regatta come steaming through our racing!) it takes a little while but is usually sorted by December. Will definitely let you know when I know!

Cheers

Re: 18th/19th July Thames Sailing Club

Last entry on this topic I promise. Thought this video posting on you tube might be of interest. Video camera was set up and left unmanned. Demonstrates that you can sail safely in the same water as Raters even when it's blowing old boots! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pl8H0KRDl8

Re: 18th/19th July Thames Sailing Club

Yachts and Yachting report now published at
http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/news/?article=147807. There were lots more photos taken and, as soon as we've tracked down who took what, I'll publish more links. Can I suggest that it might be worth publishing a preview for Roadford here?

Re: Roadford 10th Anniversary Event. August Bank Holiday Weekend

Unfortunately there's no way I can make Roadford however, after the event last weekend at Thames, I've now got a CVRDA banner that needs to get there somehow. There was no one left after racing on Sunday who was definitely going to the nationals to give it to. So before I pay to post it to Roger (pr...

Results now published here http://www.thamessailingclub.co.uk/C8FC ... gatta.aspx. As can be seen, a lot of carnage! Report, photos and video footage to follow shortly.

Re: 18th/19th July Thames Sailing Club

'Be careful what you wish for' sums up the event. After the almost complete absence of wind last year, we had strong winds all weekend. On the Saturday these were mainly westerlies which meant the treeline took some of the power out but made for a lot of localised wind shifts. Very challenging saili...

Re: 18th/19th July Thames Sailing Club

Thank you Pat - don't listen to the doom-mongers I say! We're close enough to the event now for the superforecast on windfinder to kick in. This is centred on Heathrow so very close. Shows stronger winds on Saturday than Sunday though mostly westerly so the effective winds at river level will be les...

Re: 18th/19th July Thames Sailing Club

Latest updates to try to persuade any prevaricators teetering on the edge of coming. Guildford Marine have kindly offered to be our prize sponsors for the event so there will be some nice goodies up for grabs. It also looks like the weather will finally be in our favour (he says looking for somethin...

Re: 18th/19th July Thames Sailing Club

Nick I'll see what I can do about a Solo. We haven't got any in real serious race ready condition but we have a couple that compete in club racing fairly regularly and are therefore very useable. Only problem is that they're all 'plastics'! Are you bothered if they're centre or rear main? Jim, let m...

Re: 18th/19th July Thames Sailing Club

No problem at all! Do you still want a camping space on the Saturday night? Looking forward to having you along. Can I ask you to fill out a commentary sheet for me (at the back of the NOR) before you come?

Cheers
