Well it looks like it might be the Finn then, complete with cellulose composite mast and Elvestrom sail.
I'm put off the carbon mast by the comment 'no use for racing', I'll wait to see what else turns up I think.

How many Finns are likely to sail? I need to decide if I'm bringing my Finn to make up a good fleet or my Enterprise so i can sail with my wife.

We've got a club member who's looking for a Finn, I wonder if anyone can help? I've checked the ones for sale on the net at the moment and the most promising is a Pearson in South Devon but it needs quite a bit of work and he's not very confident in his DIY. Does anyone know of a suitable boat, pref...

The highest grade from Robbins is called Super Elite Plus. As Ed says it's a lot harder and stronger than Elite and it has the stripey finish. As it's a very dark finish I decided it wouldn't look right on my decks but I used it for the centreboard case (last year's job!).

Not sure Pat. We had some came to Saltford to one of the early Andrew Thornhill vintage days and they were very well sailed but well beaten by the Mercuries. However nearly everything was well beaten by Mercuries on the River Avon (apart from a certain Rupert in a Firefly!)

I had the same problem on my Finn, the top laminate was going wavy and I was applying epoxy to try and hold it down. You could do what I did, sail the boat in a near gale, capsize it and rip half the deck off. Then rebuild with a new deck! I knew I wouldn't be able to find another plywood with the s...

I've sailed lots without a rudder but found it impossible in a Laser. I've also sailed Finns for many years, usually with fixed rudders, but I've never tried 'conventional' rudderless sailing. Because the centreboard doesn't move aft like most boats you cannot really balance it. However you can sail...

Glad you enjoyed it. The sunshine was nice, as was the wind strength, but a Southerly is always very shifty in the docks. There's always different highlights for me, last time it was David's unit, this time it was Julian's Moth, which was a real delight to see as I hadn't seen a scow Moth since the ...

Chris, The storage area has two locks, a keyed padlock which the harbourmaster unlocks in the morning and locks up again at dusk, and another combination lock which club memebrs use to gain access. You will need to see the harbourmaster and ask if you can have the combination to gain access, and pro...

Chris, You should be able to get it in but make sure you put it in the club compound and not the council one. (It's all right Keith we've moved your FF). Our one is at the back of the Dutch barn, nearest the road. You may find a large keelboat in the way!

I've just been checking the handicaps for next weekend. I note that the Finn handicap has not been changed on the website despite a discussion about it last year so I've changed my sheet to increase them both by 1 (Ed suggested 2 but I'll try 1 first). I've also decided to sail Django with the woode...

Well the Finn's finished thanks to global warming so all's set for another good day's sailing in the Docks, with no repeat of the hailstorms we hope. Look forward to seeing you all, we plan to start the first race at about 1100 and again we'll try to get 3 races in.

Same thoughts I had when I sailed a 1969 Lark, is a 1990 Merlin more eligible? And again with a 1972 Contender.
Don't need to answer now since I sold the Contender when I bought the Finn and replaced the Lark with a wooden Enterprise!
