MOTH SPOT ... ROADFORD RALLY

Hi Everyone, ROADFORD MOTH SPOT The MOTH SPOT at Roadford has been extended to include an invitation to ALL LOWRIDER MOTHS. So it's a wonderful opportunity to sail in 60 years of Mothing. It's listed in the club website as a two day event but Alan Williams would like to have an idea of the numbers w...

Re: Fully restored Magnum 8 for sale on FB dinghy page

It looks very smart but is it fully restored or simply fully repainted ? If its the former it could be a bullet proof boat if its just been repainted I'd be a bit wary. I brought a fully restored Magnum 9.9 which is absolutely bullet proof - but there was plenty of evidence to show that this include...

Re: International Moth Lowrider wanted

Hi Stu, I've inadvertently put Nessa in a difficult position and to help undo my muddle I need to emphasise that the Hunts rally is for CVRDA eligible dinghies which I think rules out the Magnum 8's. Roadford is open to non eligible Lowriding Moths who can race each other and with the Vintage and Cl...

Re: Hunts Rally - Moths

Hi Everybody, I am clearly at fault here. It was certainly my intention to ask the organisers before seeking to make any CVRDA rally a focus for a moth gathering which I thought I had done. Clearly not though in this case. The last thing I wanted to do - especially as a new boy as it were - was to m...

Re: International Moth Lowrider wanted

Hi Al Regarding speed it's all relative. The flying moths in top top hands have done in excess of 32 mph !!!! Crazy speeds. The later narrow boats can outrun 20 - 25 hp ribs. ( Axman 6 onwards) While the broad beam Magnums can feel very fast when approaching a dock wall. More important is the feel o...

Re: International Moth Lowrider wanted

Hi Al, Like all things it depends what you want, perseverance, and skill base. There are probably about three plateaus of Moth development to choose from. The very classic Skol; Mistral; Lucky Sixpence; Gentleman Jim; A whole list of dinghies around the 50's 60's and 70's. In character fairly conven...

Re: MOTH ZONES at HUNTS ; ROADFORD AND BANBURY

Hi Everybody,

I realise that the link I have posted publicising the moth zone at Hunts has an important error which is now corrected.

THE CORRECT DATES FOR THE HUNT RALLY ARE MAY 3RD AND 4TH.

I do apologise for my error and oversight.
Best Wishes

Hunts Rally

Hi All Those Moths Planning to sail at Hunts, In a moment of utter muppetry I have partly caused a diary snaffle and I cant now come to the Hunts Rally. I was really looking forward to meeting other Moth sailors and to sailing there. So I am really sorry not to support the event which I hope will be...

Re: Launching.

On a lee shore with boats moored in tight on a pontoon the boom push is an excellent way to get boats safely off in good order; up to wind with speed and control. I'd love to know what's the problem - been doing it for years as an RYA Assistant D.I.; Dinghy and latterly a Senior instructor. There ar...

Re: scow moth

My partner says she completely agrees....although I am not sure if that runs to a rub down for Rupert. She also says it's a wonderful idea and should encompass a home for ancient and eccentric Moth sailors offering wifely respite for two or three days a week. I can confirm that I have had some wonde...

Re: MOTH ZONES at HUNTS ; ROADFORD AND BANBURY

Hi Everyone, I am sorry but in a moment of muppetry I got the dates for the HUNTS Rally wrong. They should read MAY 3RD AND 4TH AND NOT 5th - as with all the other CVRDA events it is a two dayer. There is a possibility of a third day but this is already very busy and so places - if there are any - a...

MOTH ZONES at HUNTS ; ROADFORD AND BANBURY

Hi Everybody and particularly all Moth sailors. Attached hopefully is some publicity blurb inviting all lowriding moths of whatever vintage to see if we can give a special Moth type focus to three CVRDA events AT HUNTS; ROADFORD AND BANBURY. Its provisionally labelled a Moth Zone but the idea is to ...
