Re: Proctor Pictures

Sorry David - my fault - was doing two things at once, the other thing was trying to sell a caravan! I've now corrected the link in the post above. I can mention the event to the owner of the Zenith in the pics - I'm not aware of them travelling to events before but who knows. Yes there is a definit...

Re: Proctor Pictures

Hello I've put a few photos of Z43 (not one of mine but based at my club) in a dropbox folder for you along with a few scans of other Zenith info which might be of use if you are doing proctor research - here's the link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ik1uankatv4yw65/AAB0wgx4FQ-kqY2lA_w_y4Mia?dl=0 Unfor...

Re: Xmas greetings and next projects

I'm doing a few small jobs on the finn, aiming to make the tanks water tight, and a bit of a revarnish.

I need some off cuts of marine ply to make plugs for holes left by redundant fittings... Any suggestions where to get some?

Re: Finn buoyancy

As it has a double bottom your Fairey would prob come up drier than most boats of its age... Might want some addittional bouyancy up front though

Re: Fairy Finn

Good work Nessa! Afraid I don't have any suggestions on a long term owner but at least it's safe for now!

Re: 2018 events

We could do another 'picnic race' on BH MON 28 May... Joining in with the club event already programmed. But this is only a week away from hunts and as we didn't have many visitors last year I'm thinking we have a year off this year?

Re: 2018 events

David I have two zeniths so I guess it's me you were thinking of, in theory would love to help but sadly neither are in sailing condition at the moment - one is not far off but really planning to re varnish the Finn this winter instead! I do know of one other which is in sailing condition and based ...

Re: Bodged Finn on ebay

Euurrrgghh! Why would you do that to a Fairey Finn! I seem to remember this being up for sale a couple of years back for a LOT more money, at least now it's cheap. Could be good for someone with the time and skill but that's not me either!

Re: Finn nationals

Two other thoughts... I very much agree with Neil's comments about the work of Alan and Graham (and all the early Roadford fleet) in getting classic finns going. I got into Finns when sailing at Roadford and Alan talked me into having a go in Graham's spare boat - graham then found a old boat for me...

Re: Finn nationals

Well I actually think we're in a pretty good place at the moment. We have new people aquiring and joining in with sailing classic Finns (welcome Nessa, Jpa and Cweed!) We have two class associations wanting to encourage us and offering events we can join in with (join one or both - take your pick!)....

Re: Finn nationals

Maybe we pick one cvrda event next year that we all make an effort to encourage as many Finns as poss to go to - one of the bigger venues or the cvrda Nats?

Re: Classic Boat Insurance

... still not cheap! Cost of replacement kit, especially masts, mean Finns are expensive to insure - if you don't have any carbon masts could be worth a phone call to see if they will take this into account. I just went for 3rd party only... but I wonder how much it would cost to replace the needle...
