GP14 No.26 was out sailing at Frensham Pond today, and it reminded me that we are only a few weeks away from the premiere SE CVRDA event. Over the weekend of 15th/16th July we will be hosting you all, and this year an added attraction will be a special category for National 12's that meet the CVRDA ...

Yes, even as we speak, the massed ranks of garden staff at Clibborn Towers are tending and preparing the lush, rolling acres of this stately pile, ready for the rag, tag and bobtail who will visit for the CVRDA event at Frensham over the w/e of 15th/16th July. Book your pitch early to avoid disappoi...

According to the Finn Register, which is woefully out of date I'm afraid, or at least my copy is, Finn K214 is an Elvstrom hull in GRP, made in 1965. It was originally ordered by Brian Saffery-Cooper, so had a good pedigree. It was named Musketeer, and ownership transferred to R.Davies in 1970. Sadl...

Brian. That's great, thanks. A little anecdote. I rented a 30footer or so from the rental place on Coronado. Passing under the Coronado bridge into the bay another 'yacht' came through the next arch. It was Dennis Conner in one or other of the America's cup boats. They weren't sailing properly, just...

My dad built a Lysander, from a Percy Blandford kit, in 1957. We had many happy holidays in it. I seem to remember that there weren't really any problems with it, but he had to modify the window in the front of the cabin, as there was insufficient room for the whole window to take the bend shown on ...

Chatting to a chap at Frensham yesterday (We were condemned to the safety boat for the morning)he told me he had never enjoyed his sailing more than when he was racing Vulcans at a sailing club in Sheffield in the 60's/70's. I vaguely remember reading about the class, a Peter Milne design I think, b...

.........but there was a race at Frensham on the 26th. Just for interest. In very little wind a 2.4mR keelboat won the pursuit race from a Finn (not mine). Various Lasers, Larks, RS200's and other assorted rubbish in the middle. Just shows - who would think the yardsticks of a 2.4mR and a Finn could...

Once again the hoary old myth of the low boom gets raised. The OK, and the Finn, both have springy masts, you sail upwind with no kicker, or virtually no kicker, and when you let a little mainsheet out to tack the mast springs forward and raises the boom. Combined with the depth of hull in the OK, t...
