Re: Buss and Elston info please
What a fascinating boat! Forget Fireflies and hot or cold moulding. This is quite different. I have a theory about it but first can you check it is just 12 ft long. If it is 14 ft from the outside of the transom to the outside of the bow then it is one of just three international fourteens they buil...

Re: Buss and Elston info please
Hallo Stu I agree with Ed that it is probably a firefly. It would not be a national 12 as their rules insist on clinker built at that time. It could possibly be some unspecified dinghy that was 12ft long. Your question about collectibility is hard to answer. Perhaps desirable is a better word anyway...

Re: 2019 events
Not a CVRDA event as such but there is a vintage int 14 event as usual at Rickmansworth SC on 11,12 May. We have always enjoyed this event and any CVRDA types with a 14 will be made to feel very welcome.

Re: Graham Cockle auctions
It sounds as if the auction had some high hopes of what people are prepared to pay for old dinghies, whatever their pedigree. The ‘value’ always comes down to ‘whatever someone is prepared to pay’ in reality. Or to be more precise in an auction it is determined by whatever the second bidder decides ...

Re: Graham Cockle auctions
I think only a couple of things didn’t sell. The fourteen went for 550 I think.
The bids disappear d as soon as they timed out of the auction
Well done Neil.

Re: Wood finish...
Linseed would certainly work, make sure it is boiled not raw. You can then use a wax polish if you want a little more sheen. However I would suggest danish oil or any of the furniture oils available in all diy shops as having a few advantages. Such as: more durable and harder, can build up to whatev...

Re: International 14 rig and rules
Current rules and some links to historical rules and changes can be found here http://international14.org/world-association/class-rules/ Tom Vaughan’s book of the fourteens has the 1970 rules. I can have a go at copying the relevant parts if you can’t find a copy, but I’m not sure how they would dif...

Re: Graham Cockle auctions
They are also selling off the containers and buildings that formed the Cardiff World of Boats establishment “due to relocation”. A quantity of larch and teak is also included. The larch was left over from the restoration of the very large vessel Elena in the main workshop area in Cardiff. I think th...

Re: What is lot number 7?
There seems something very odd going on with the transom and the lack of deck makes me wonder if it was once an Int 14 and some one has cut 15” off the stern for some reason. Lot no. 14 I see is called Morning Cloud 2 and I wonder if it had anything to do with Ted Heath. Years ago I had to do some w...

Re: Baltic Wharf
And it was very good to see Stu and Liz and family at the end of the day...been far too long!
Also two people introduced themselves that are going to join in next year’s events with British Moths. I’m afraid I have forgotten their names but ‘welcome’ and we look forward to seeing you next year.

Re: Finn repair
If the galvanised nails are now rusting I would think there is nothing you can realistically do about that since you cannot get to them to remove them. I think I would use epoxy to fill and glue all the strips then epoxy coat the whole hull inside and out. If it was being made new now and made like ...
