Definitely a Typhoon. I have one (no22) waiting for restoration with the original rig and Davidh says the Proctor family have one. There were rumours of another at a school. I doubt there are many around as I am led to believe they only built about 50. Usual problems with deck to hull join failing a...

The first question is perhaps, Do we need sailing in the Olympics at all? As sailors and a sport generally, probably not. As a way of being part of sports funding then very much so. Much of the distribution of sports funding generally is based on medal success. Yes in the UK we can argue that for ye...

The picture shows the boat sailing in Brightlingsea outside the shipyard of James & Stone. Now sadly demolished to make way for th ugliest block of flats possible. Known locally as HMP Brightlingsea!

I am working on the 19th but would be happy to help on the 20th. I might be persuaded to get the dry suit out and crew- I draw the line at sailing in classic sailing gear in the London docks in January :D

Excellent another class to add to the list. Definitely not a Grad, but like Rupert a new class on me. Looks quite nice though.

This is the first Vintage Yachting Games and my understanding is that it will expand and eventually include other classes, including the firefly etc. The first choice of classes are those which are still active and used to traveling. Nice as it would be to see the Swallows there, I doubt if many are...

The class certainly dates from that time. They are still being built and very popular in other parts of the world.

Try http://snipe.org/scira/rules/index.php

It is not a great site but you will find all the rules that you need there.

I think this topic needs an airing David so hopefully you might be able to start it rolling. Development is usually a subjective argument and we have to be careful which parameters we use. The great dinghies of the 60's and 70's "knocked" the local classes that preceded them and then suffe...

Hi DH Try this for the lazy E pic http://www.nationale.org.au/history/index.html I don't think they were that successful up here but they did get a class down under. Usual good taste of the Aussies, lots of sail area and a trapeze or sliding seat on other designs. Always fancied the Skate class with...

Hi Chris, It is always interesting to compare reports. I don't think I have any actual reports from the first trials, but I do have actual papers and letters from Peter Scott about Chichester and an actual IYRU report for 1953. There is no doubt that the FD is a fabulous boat. However, it appears th...
