This is almost identical but shorter than the Whitehall skiffs that we have at our club on the Dart. Some of our members sail them as well as row.

Re: Found at Mount Batten Plymouth
The red one just has a fully retractable center plate, no bulb, I looked underneath and you can just see it poking down.
Yes I think I remember seeing an RL on the sticker but not sure of it....

Found at Mount Batten Plymouth
A few weeks ago I was at MB and found these two. Any one know about them? 1) Red plywood, 14-15ft long 5ft beam, chines like Seafly, steel CB, double diamonds on mast, and runners on sliders like old type Stars. 2) Blue GRP, 14-15ft long 5-6ft beam very high Gooseneck, Asymmetric, self drainer, carb...

catamaran
I was down at Mount Batten in Plymouth last weekend and came across a small beach Cat with the name "Jetstream" on the hulls, bit like a cross between a Hobie 14 and a Dart, about 13ft long GRP, single sail. It has an interesting construction method which is like an Airfix kit where mouldi...

Hi Soggy Badger,
Point me in the direction of the crititicisms of Theory and practice, I know it's dated and would like to know your references.

Re: Notable books for reading - for the amateur sailor...
If you are interested in Aerodynamics and hydrodynamics then Marchaj's books are an interesting read but the latter very technical. Sailing Theory and Practice, and The Aero-hydrodynamics of sailing. The first book is much easier to read, both are dated now, but Marchaj used to sail Finns so his boo...

Re: Is the cvrda the way to go?
R.D Culler wrote a book called Skiffs and Schooners, in it he says that engines are simple things and oars are really complicated. After all anyone can bolt an outboard on the back of their launch and it will go, to make a pair of oars and set them up right is much harder. There are so many easier (...

Re: Is the cvrda the way to go?
I've read through this thread and have found it stimulating and have also read the Y+Y thread referenced, what I'm going to say here may not be on topic enough but I'll put it in anyway. It a thinking tool thought up by Everett Rogers, his idea was that the rate of diffusion of an innovation was dec...

Re: Thinking of building a boat.....
Max, JimC has a good point about rebuilding a glass shell.I did the same for an IC when I was 18, it was a wreck, shell and rig, so I made all the bits and redecked. It ended up way too heavy and the rig was outclassed but it was good fun and took 13months of part time effort, and I learnt a great d...

Catamaran wanted
Upon reflection it seems that the only type of boat that I haven't sailed is any sort of Catamaran. Is there anyone with one in the South West area who would like theirs looked after/repaired and sailed next year? I can offer it a loving home on the river Dart. However I'm a bit broke at the moment ...

Re: 'nother old moff
