Re: daggerboard case lining

Can you get some photos showing which parts are affected? I'm sure my Dad could find suitable offcuts to make up a new case or just the packing pieces if its saveable.

Moth Roll Call

Well the deal is done and I am the new owner of 3222, Thank you to Roger for his careful storage over the last 30 years!!! It took a while to dust it all off and see what we have, but at least its dry and solid even if it does need a fair bit of work to make it usable. We weighed the hull without wi...

Re: International Moth Sail Number K3222 – Renovation Projec

Thanks Nessa, we knew you wouldn't resist!

I can see pretty much what there is from the photos,- a lot of work, but an interesting challenge.
I have emailed Roger to get an idea on price and we'll take it from there.

Re: International Moth Sail Number K3222 – Renovation Projec

I wish I had seen this before coming down to Hunts for the weekend and back again, would like to have had a closer look. A Stockholm Sprite was one of the first moths I swam around as a teenager, so a good excuse for a more authentic CVRDA moth. Oh what am I doing, this is the slippery slope, I was ...

Re: National Rally - who is coming?

I agree, thanks to all at Hunts for a great weekend and well organised event. Clearly a lot of hard work had gone into making us all feel welcome and providing a good mix of racing and fun.
Look forward to sailing with you all again.

Re: National Rally - who is coming?

Mine's a Magnum 7 which was rescued from a garage roof in Plymouth a few years ago. It was built from 2mm ply with a layer of glass cloth on the inside. Despite a total strip down I never found the proper sail number on the hull but it must be one of about 7 made in 85-86. I still use the Needlespar...

Re: National Rally - who is coming?

Can I apply for a late entry please? I have managed to escape from a rescue duty at home club so should be ok for the nationals weekend now if you have room for another old moth and driver! my Trolley Dolly refuses to camp so looking for accomodation. Travelodges on A14 seem to have some rooms but m...

Re: Moth Tuning

Black bands could be legitimately moved up as they are related to the luff length rather than a maximum height. Halyard???? Considered uncool in Moth circles! The boat falls over anyway so feed the sail in while its lying down. only a short loop of thin line up and over the top and back to a hook ne...

Re: Moth Tuning

Mystery moth looks smart, is that a new paint job?

Yes, i think the battens are too stiff, particularly the top ones.
Outhall is too tight, or maybe the boom is hanging low because sail is not up to top of mast?

Re: Moth Tuning

We would organise a day at Greensforge, but its difficult Moth conditions at the best of times. surrounded by trees and only 17 acres. Still, if you can sail one here you can manage anywhere!

Re: Fireball Refurb

That looks like a lot of work, good luck! To answer your questions I would suggest leaving the sander alone until you stripped the paint using a hot air gun and scraper. Use as little heat as poss and a pull scraper with the grain trying not to dig the corners in. Sanding the paint will just clog th...

Re: Moth Tuning

I agree with all suggestions so far, a bit more rake, tighter downhaul, induce some bend in the mast etc. As a puddle sailor mothie myself, I consider tell- tales and a burgee essential for survival, but I can't see them on your photos. 2 or 3 pairs of tell-tales near the luff (about 30% back) will ...

Re: Who's coming to Roadford

Yes, looking forward to mothing at Roadford.

Don't know about all that pumping business in Finns, I spend all my time trying NOT to wobble!!!

I'll have a small ox (already far too heavy for a moth) and a veggie ox for my Trolly Dolly.
