No photos showing.... are they posted somewhere else?
Re: New Boat
Hope im not hijacking the thread from the original author! I was considering a Swordfish but none seemed to be available this spring. We will keep the Albacore until we have learned to sail it properly and then consider our options.
As for a singlehander... this has been discussed before!

Re: New Boat
Hi.... think it depends a bit on size, weight and agility. I had the same problem with my new partner last year. The sequence, which seems to have worked so far, has been: 1) 3 sails in a club Enterprise to establish if she enjoyed sailing 2) Purchase of old (Sail no 169) Kestrel with heavy centrepl...

Re: Metal plate for Albacore
I have a steel Kestrel centreplate.... not sure of any difference from the albacore one. Approx 35kg I believe - ideal stability for sleeping /cruising. PM for details if interested (Portsmouth area)

Skipper Sabre
I have a friend who has a Bermuda rig Skipper 14, which he believes to be a Sabre. Apperently they were raced in the early 80s with a PY between an Enterprise and a Mirror. It is also possibly referred to as a Skipper B. Has anybody got any knowledge or experience of such a boat? Or any records of a...

Re: Early Phantom on e-bay
Sail Number 5 .....certainly a classic - and at 1971 nearly 40 years old must make it almost vintage. Please note though that as a non member of the cvrda my thoughts dont necessarily count!

Re: Whitefriars Classics and Lost classes meeting 29th March
Names for a Tonic? Well, if she's throwing you in the water it must have been a refreshing experience at this time of year.... how about WATATONIC ?
Wont be able to make the end of March meet, but will see what happens once the Albacore hits the water in April.

Re: 14ft Javelins
Thanks for starting the new thread....my Javelin was sail no 30 (approx) and sailed in Langstone and Chichester harbour. I deemed it beyond repair when the crew went through the foredeck (dont ask!) and upgraded (??) to a Fireball in need of renovation. It is strange that you can still get old Fireb...

14ft Javelins
I disagree Ed - the Merlin on show is (I believe) eligible to enter CVRD events and as a finish to aim for or to simply admire is absolutely superb. As someone who has "mended" (rather than restored) many old boats (Phantoms, 14ft Javelin (Uffa Fox design), Fireball, Enterprise, Mirror etc...

Kestrel
This started in the singlehanded challenge thread....thought it was time to restart! Does anyone know the oldest Kestrel sailed at a CVRDA event? I have Sail No. 169 and am looking to get her sorted! Anyone got an old Kestrel aluminium centreplate for sale?

Re: Singlehanded challenge
Yes, I intend sailing the Kestrel two handed (unless I swap it for an albacore. The Kestrel needs updating and a new aluminium centreplate so reviewing my options at the moment) - but I also want a singlehander for when my crew is shopping or otherwise occupied! Would prefer something lighter to pul...

Re: Singlehanded challenge
As a non member of the cvrda but an owner of Kestrel 169 (early 60s) I am complemtating my sailing activities for next year. I can update the Kestrel, or get a newer one, and enjoy occasional cvrda events as well as club racing. I am also in the market for a cheap single hander - at c. 15st the choi...

Re: Singlehanded challenge
It seems the cvrda already have constitutional permission to adjust handicaps as necessary depending on modernity of rig. A system that took account of local conditions as with Hayling Island s.c. and some of the inland clubs could be incorporated when meetings are held at clubs with locally adjuste...

Re: Singlehanded challenge
Hi Ed Phantom was designed in 1971 (see below - from Phantom website) so a change to 1970 wouldnt include it. Wood, non self draining Phantoms with a tin rig....a "lost class" possibly? I believe the "over 25 yrs old rule" would also rule out GRP ones and Claridge self drainers. ...

Re: Singlehanded challenge
In the future it might become necessary to reassess this decision if too many 'out of character' boats start taking an interest in the cvrda old wing, but for the moment its just great to see these wonderful dinghies which have become totally outpaced within their own classes but can still have grea...
